1. Skyclad - A Semblance of Normality #1 with a bullet! One of the best and most impressive albums of the decade. The harsh folk metal of Skyclad meets modern smooth, HEAVY, production. Add in the clear voice of Kevin Ridley, plus the fact that I'm a massive fanboy.
2. Nightwish - Once I believe the best album Nightwish ever made.
3. Ayreon - The Human Equation A masterpiece. I really love the storytelling. The music has so much variety, but it's pure class throughout.
4. Saxon - Lionheart The most played album of 2004 for me. A strong, standout Saxon album. Great, catchy riffs, nice heavy production and it's just very hooky and memorable.
5. Chris Caffery - Faces The debut Caffery solo, and still the best one he ever did. For a fan of Doctor Butcher. Superb songs and performance. He can't really sing, but he doesn't care, nor do I.
6. Therion - Lemuria Therion is a terrific band, but sometimes they go to so weird places it's hard to appreciate it all fully. Here I believe they are at their most accessible and memorable.
7. Death Angel - The Art of Dying This album has won a place in my heart this year. This is a premier, modern thrash metal album by D.A.
8. Axxis - The Time Machine Axxis now does power metal. But in their own terms. Still a lot of 80's melodic pop metal sensitivities to be found here.
9. Angra - Temple of Shadows Actually my only Angra CD. I didn't want to put this in here, but it's grown on me big time. Even surpassing long-time favourites like Wuthering Heights, Blaze's Blood & Belief, Sirius B, 'Tage Mahal, Feinstein, etc. I think I've fallen in love with the Temple of Shadows. Classy masterful power metal.
10. Wuthering Heights - Far from the Madding Crowd This is definitely the best 'Heights' album, and Nils Patrik Johansson has never sounded better. It's heavy metal, but a little folky. Songwriting is epic.

This will be a New Year's resolution for me going into 2023! I liked doing it and I miss writing creatively. I look at the gaps in writing these and can't believe how many years have gone by since I first started it. Thank you. I think I will listen to "The Art of Dying" on the way to work today.
