If we count Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos as a 2010 release, that would be my favorite. But since it was released in 2009 in Japan, I don't count it.
Decrepit Birth - Polarity Overkill - Ironbound Unbidden - Slaughtering the Vile
I got thanked in the booklet for that Unbidden album, by the way.

1. Star One - Victims of the Modern Age The greatest album of the entire decade. I still stand by this statement. Wonderful. Killer guitar tone. So heavy. With this melodic music and powerhouse vocalists.
2. Flotsam and Jetsam - The Cold My new favourite band, and this one is a masterpiece. Very very dark. This CD was my partner in my recent divorce. "Better Off Dead" must be the song with the most depressing lyrics ever by anyone.
3. Heathen - Evolution of Chaos I love Heathen. What an album. Heavy, complex, catchy. Leave No Stone Unturned!
4. Blaze Bayley - Promise and Terror The final four songs are hands down the best work Blaze ever did. So dark. Written about his wife that died. "These scars prove my life was real." Tragic. And inspiring. This man certainly has lived.
5. Rage - Strings to a Web My first bite at post-80's Rage, and it was such an experience that I ended up collecting their entire discography and now consider Rage one of my absolute favourite bands ever. This album is versatile, catchy and technical. It was the Empty Hollow suite that originally won me over.
6. Death Angel - Relentless Retribution My other new favourite band. More aggressive than their previous two albums.
7. Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier The ending three songs are why this is here. Those are all perfect 10/10.
8. Wuthering Heights - Salt I had this phase when I adored this band and Nils Patrick Johansson above anything else. This album still holds well. Definitely top 10 for me.
9. Avantasia They did a double album, or two separate albums. I love Avantasia, I love Tobias. Some of the songs on Wicked Symphony/Angel of Babylon aren't great, but there's enough there to rank this high.
10. Masterplan - Time to Be King This was actually my first Masterplan CD. Very very good melodic heavy metal. I bought the other two Jorn-fronted CDs from a member here at HoM.

Everybody ranks Overkill's Ironbound... and I only just got it a month or two ago. It's gotten a few spins, it's very good, but...
Maybe I need a few more months with it.

(IMHDO) it was leaps and bounds more consistent in the songwriting department than the two albums that preceded it.

I'll keep playing it. Overkill has been on my player lately.
