So, which album gets your vote?

Fear of the Dark for sure.

Never heard X Factor from start to finish. Good reason for that.....it sucked lol Fear of the Dark, is a pretty decent album, and seems to be the forgotten album when talking about maiden. At least that's how I perceive it.

The X-Factor. A great record. Some of my favourites are on it, like the Edge of Darkness, Look for the Truth, Man on the Edge and Sign of the Cross. 2AM, The Unbeliever... both great tracks. And the rest are also real good, brooding heavy songs that fit the theme of the album. I like 'em all really. Maybe Lord of the Flies is the weakest, but even that doesn't bother me. Blaze is really on top his game here too on this CD. I love his voice here. Fits the songs perfect. I became a big Blaze fan because of this album, and have followed his solo career to date, buying everything he ever released. Even if Virtual XI was a massive disappointment. But he picked up the slack with his solo releases.

Fear of the Dark really only has three good tracks. Be Quick or Be Dead (f'ing amazing!), Afraid to Shoot Strangers and the title track (overplayed as hell). The rest are not very good at all. Fear of the Dark has some of the absolute WORST Maiden tracks ever. Like the Apparition, the Fugitive, Chains of Misery and the awful Weekend Warrior. Bruce also sounds horrible on the album. Trying to be all raspy and bad. Childhood's End is a nice ballad, I dig it. But this clearly loses to the X-Factor. 

I felt the band was rejuvenated with the X-Factor.

One can suck a bowling ball through a garden hose.
The other can suck start the engines on a 747 or B-52 bomber.

I revisited the X Factor after so many years.

It's not that bad actually.

Whichever wins, they both handily beat No Prayer for the Dying. It's Fear of the Dark, only even worse.

No Prayer for the Dying is underrated. I like the basic Ac/Dc influenced direction they went. Holy Smoke is a fun/entertaining rock tune with amusing lyrics! And Tailgunner is classic Maiden. Of coarse there’s a few crappy filler songs… but I’d say everything they’ve done after Seventh Son has some filler.

I also like Bruce’s Tattooed Millionaire solo album. I’ll take any Bruce album over the Blaze stuff.

Mother Russia is an amazing track. One of their best.

I do like Holy Smoke, even if Bruce sounds like he's being violently strangled.

Fear of the Dark. I like X Factor but it is not in the same league as FotD.

I like both but Fear is my very first Iron Maiden album which propelled them toward my favorite band ever (tied with Iron Maiden). So no contest.

I'm not as tired from my job as I was the first couple of days, but I'm still a tad worn out. Typing tired will result in the occasional mistake.

Fear of the Dark was pretty boring but the X Factor was an absolute disaster.
