"Halloween" (2018)
Blumhouse Productions (of "Insidious" and "Paranormal Activity" fame) reboots the Michael Myers saga (for the second time) with this 40th anniversary remix that erases everything but the 1978 original from series continuity. A PTSD-afflicted Laurie Strode has spent the last four decades preparing for Michael to return to Haddonfield, and when he escapes on Halloween night she is ready and waiting to go all Sarah Connor on him in order to protect her estranged daughter and granddaughter. ...this was my 2nd viewing of this flick and while I still feel the whole exercise was unnecessary, I actually liked it better this time around. If you must watch a "Halloween" installment at this time of year, you could certainly do worse than this one.
I saw this a couple of weeks ago. I had a bunch of Google "credits" (using their survey app which gives you money for answering questions) and I had a bunch built up so I "rented" this and it was decent. I liked it and I'm looking forward to the other 2 coming out.
Today I started the Space Shuttle Challenger documentary on Netlfix.

2001 Maniacs(2005)-Yet another remake, this time of the H.G. Lewis splatter cult flick of the same name. A group of oversexed college students head to Florida on their spring break. Taking a detour, they end up in the small town of Pleasant Valley where the locals invite them to stay and help them celebrate their annual "Guts and Glory Jubilee". The fun soon turns deadly as they discover that people of the town are actually spirits who where massacred during the Civil War and look to avenge their deaths by slaughtering any "yankees" who are unlucky enough to step foot in their town. Filmed at a time when seemingly any horror film with any kind of following was remade, this movie does at least deliver with the standard gore, hot babes and dark humor and the actors seem to be having a blast in their roles. While I wouldn't call this a great or even necessarily a good film, I guess it was at least watchable for what it is. Followed by a sequel that I'm sure I'll get around to checking out someday. 2/5

Vast Of Night on Amazon Prime. It's Twilight Zone-ish as evident by the intro when you watch it. Takes place in the 1950's about a couple of teens, one a switchboard operator and the other working at a radio station. It's an independent film and probably low budget. It had a ton of good reviews so I decided to check it out. It's OK but not great.

"The Hunt" (2020)
Wealthy "elites" kidnap a group of "ordinary" citizens, turn them loose on the grounds of a palatial estate, and hunt them for sport. Unfortunately, one of their targets turns out to be tougher and smarter than they expected. This ultra-violent, heavy handed social satire is part "Purge" and part "Most Dangerous Game," but it's trying too hard to be edgy and controversial. It started off promising but just got sillier as it went along. Skip it.

How is Cobra Kai? Everyone seems to be watching it. I just wasn't interested from the previews I saw. In the previews it made Daniel-san look like the dick this time around. If people here like it, let me know and I might check it out.

I recommend it. My son, daughter's fiance, and a coworker all said how much they enjoyed it so once it popped up on Netflix, I decided to give it a shot. It's very entertaining. Each episode is roughly a half hour long so it's a breeze to binge. I've gotten through most of the first season in 2 days only watching in the evening. And even though Daniel-san is a bit if a dick, there's more to it than just that. Plus, it has a pretty cool soundtrack as well.

My wife was talking about checkin' out Cobra Kai, I told her it would likely be lost on me since I never saw any of the "Karate Kid" movies. She was amazed by that. "How could you NOT have seen at least the first one?" I told her that when I was a kid I had an irrational hatred of Ralph Macchio, so I avoided anything with his name on it.

You wouldn't be completely lost, but probably wouldn't like it as much if you haven't seen the movies. I really liked the first movie, wasn't huge on the other ones, but really enjoy the show and can't wait for season three.

Ahhhh so I take it you missed out on ANOTHER great 80's classic "Crossroads"? Set your opinion aside because I felt the same way about him as well.

Hah, nope... but honestly, if I haven't gotten around to it by now, I probably never will.

"Black Metal Satanica" (2008)
Billed as "The Most Haunting and Evil Documentary Ever Made" (woooo spooky!), this cheap looking doc on the Scandinavian Black Metal scene is pretty standard stuff -- you get a quick overview of the Mayhem/Burzum saga and the early 90s series of murders and church burnings, then lots of interviews with current purveyors of "the scene" like Watain, Mordichrist (?), Shining, and Rimmfrost, all of whom ramble on endlessly about how much they hate Christianity, modern society, humanity in general, yadda yadda yadda. We get it, guys, you're all way evil 'n' brutal 'n' stuff. I'm not a black metal fan at all but for some reason I still find docs like these interesting, in a "Why-the-fuck-are-these-people-walking-around-loose" kind of way. A better title for this movie would've been "Black Metallers is the Craziest Peoples." Re-watch "Until The Light Takes Us" instead.

Just started watching the 2005? Reboot of Battlestar Galactica. Saw them when they were on tv, but haven't revisited them since. Really great series, probably my favorite next to Breaking Bad.

"Ready Or Not" (2019)
On the night of her marriage into a very old fashioned, very wealthy family, a young bride (Samara Weaving) learns that her new in laws have an unusual wedding tradition - attempting to hunt and kill the newcomer, who must survive until sunrise. A fast moving, dark-as-hell horror comedy that's kinda like an old style Agatha Christie murder mystery, but with a way bigger mean streak. Lots of sadistic fun.

Tis the season ... for SCHLOCK-TOBER!
"Inmate Zero" (aka "Patients of a Saint," 2020)
Death row inmates at a remote island prison off the coast of Ireland are "volunteered" for use as medical test subjects... which of course is never a good idea. A viral outbreak soon fills the place with homicidal rage-filled zombies, and a small band of survivors has to fight their way out. Think "28 Days Later" (virus-spawned fast zombies) crossed with "Alien 3" (prison setting, shaven-headed female badass lead character). This British horror flick starts off strong enough -- it's got lots of splashy gore and makes the most of its creepy-cool setting (it was filmed in an actual prison) but it starts running out of gas about an hour in, and by the end it's just spinning its wheels. Not terrible, but not a must-see.
