"Bad Boys" (1995)
A pair of wise cracking Miami cops (Martin Lawrence and Will Smith) protect a lovely murder witness from hired killers while trying to recover a stash of heroin stolen from police evidence. Bullets fly, stuff blows up, things crash into each other, and F-Bombs are dropped on a regular basis. Michael Bay's feature film debut turned Smith into a bankable action hero and also captured Tea Leoni at her peak of mid '90s hotness. "Bad Boys" is dumb as a box of rocks but it's also a big, loud, splashy, shoot'em up guilty pleasure.

In other words, a typical Michael Bay movie.

Snowy Saturday Action Film Fest continues:
"6 Underground" (2019)
In this Netflix original (directed by Michael Bay), mysterious billionaire Ryan Reynolds uses his fortune to bankroll a super-secret team of globe-hopping, ass kicking agents to take care of the world's dirty jobs. In the first of what is obviously meant to be many adventures, they travel to the Middle East to take down a particularly brutal dictator and his regime. ...so in other words, Netflix gave Michael Bay a blank check and said, "We want our very own action franchise!" Entertainingly silly, non stop shoot-em-up, car crashin', blow-em-up fun from the guy who does mindless destruction better than anybody else.
"Overdrive" (2017)
A pair of professional car thieves steal a particularly rare model from a European crime lord, which of course turns out to be a spectacularly bad idea. A dull, low budget "Fast & Furious" knock-off that features some lovely French scenery, a couple of cute girls and some decent stunt driving, but everything else (script, cast, acting, pacing) is below par. Fun fact: leading man Scott Eastwood is Clint Eastwood's kid. Scotty may have his Dad's looks but unfortunately, he got none of his charisma.

Over the last couple of days:
Us (2019)
A family on vacation at the shore ends up being terrorized by near feral doppelgangers, all dressed in red jumpsuits and wielding large scissors. They soon discover that they're not the only ones being victimized in this thriller from Jordan Peele. It's much better than his overrated Get Out.
The Hitcher (1986)
C Thomas Howell stars as a guy driving through the Texas desert who picks up a hitchhiker (The always great Rutger Hauer) who turns out to be a psychopathic killer. Howell's able to escape but Hauer ends up chasing after him in a cat and mouse game. It's been awhile since I saw this and have to say it didn't hold up as well as I remembered. I didn't like how Hauer's character was able to correctly guess on which way Howell would end up going and there were a few other things here and there that bothered me.
Happy Death Day (2017)
An unlikable bitch is murdered on her birthday and, shades of Groundhogs Day, relived her day over and over, getting killed no matter what she tries. Along the way, she starts to realize the error of her ways while trying to solve the mystery of who is trying to kill her and her herself unstuck from the time loop. Much better than I expected.
Happy Death Day 2U (2019)
Follow up to the surprise hit that explains how the girl from the first film ended up in the time loop and how she is now stuck in an alternate reality and another time loop and being stalked by a different killer. Not as good as the first one but still an ok watch.

The Endless is also from 2017. I wonder which film came first?

I miss Married With Children. Yeah it jumped the shark once Bud tried to become a rapper and Kelly became a weather girl but there were a hell of a lot of laughs in the earlier seasons. One of my favorite episodes was when Al had an overdue library book and he launched into this soliloquy:
"...you pudding of a woman..."
Classic!

I have the box set of every season on DVD, and watch reruns all the time on tv. Believe it or not, I even have a no ma'am shirt lol Love that show.
I just got done watching my new favorite action/martial arts movie called The Raid: Redemption. Not much for dialogue, but damn it was good. Some cool fight scenes, grisly deaths, and just non-stop action.
"Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission."

Wish master (1997)
A gemologist unwittingly frees an evil djinn that begins playing tricks and twisting people's wishes in an attempt to become a god in this Wes Craven produced film. Not a bad picture with an interesting cast, including an opening narrative by Angus "Tall Man" Scrimm, Robert "Freddy Krueger" England, and in bit parts Kane "Jason Voorhees" Hodder and Ted Raimi, plus a Motorhead time playing over the end credits.
The Marshes (2018)
Three university biologists conducting water testing in a remote marsh encounter a supernatural evil and fight for survival as they are hunted down one by one in this somewhat confusing and murky thriller. Not bad but not essential viewing.

I LOVE "Wishmaster" and have seen it a million times but I didn't know some of those little tidbits you dropped there. I didn't realize those guys were in it. But you left out Reggie Bannister (also from Phantasm like Angus).

I REALLY like that movie. I hadn't thought about the movie in several years, but saw it at a shop 4 or 5 years ago (I THINK) and immediately bought it. It was super cheap too
I knew Kane Hodder was in it, but had no idea Tall Man Scrimm did the opening narrative! That is very cool.

In honor of Terry Jones' passing...
"Monty Python's Life of Brian" (1979)
The Pythons' epic Biblical satire tells the strange tale of "Brian" (Graham Chapman), a perpetually unlucky chap who was born next door to Jesus on the same night and as a result, is constantly mistaken for the Messiah. "Holy Grail" is still my fave M.P. film, but "Brian" has its fair share of laughs and quotable bits too. Blessed are the cheese makers!

BTW I may have to re-visit "Wishmaster" after seeing all the love it's been getting here. I'm pretty sure I rented it back in the VHS days but I remember next to nothin' about it.

"Cold Moon" (2016)
A long simmering feud between two Florida families over a valuable piece of property leads to several murders and eventually, to supernatural vengeance. A slow burning, low budget horror/thriller with a decent cast and a fair amount of spooky, Southern Gothic atmosphere. I wasn't blown away, but considering that I mainly know director Griff Furst's work from his SyFy creature schlock like "Ghost Shark" and "Ragin' Cajun Redneck Gators," it was better than expected.

"Deathsport" (1978)
In the year 3000, a pair of post-apocalyptic warriors (David Carradine and former Playmate of the Year Claudia Jennings) are captured by the evil government and forced to take part in "Deathsport" - a life-and-death battle on souped-up, weaponized motorcycles. This silly as hell pseudo-follow-up to Roger Corman's classic "Death Race 2000" has virtually no plot, no story, and no point - it's mostly scenes of guys on bikes chasing each other around, crashing into things, and exploding, while Jennings occasionally gets nude. Apparently there was a lot of behind-the-scenes drama during the making of this flick -- according to Corman, they fired the original director after he pulled a gun on Jennings and Carradine (!). Allan "Rock N Roll High School" Arkush was brought in to do last minute re-shoots and try to make something out of the first guy's mostly-unusable footage -- which all sounds like it was more interesting than the actual movie.

The Ray Bradbury Theater, an anthology series based on the author's work that aired on HBO back in the mid 80s through the early 90s. I'm about 4 episodes in and think it's a decent viewing with some great casting, including James Coco,Leslie Nielsen,William Shatner and Jeff Goldblum.
