I literal fucking turkey. I had never seen a live turkey before, so I did not know they were unfriendly. Damn thing was karate kicking me, took my clipboard outta my hand and tossed it aside, chased me back to my Geo, kicked this shit outta my car, etc. Really bad day for me. Really funny story for everyone else.

| Geez Uncle Sax!! Truth is stranger than fiction, as my dad would always tell me.
Well, I wouldn't call my current job weird, but in 19.5 years I've seen some stuff. People usually call us on their worst day, so...
I'll do this one at a time as they come to me.
One time we made a call to a dialysis center. The workers there had mistaken a women's unconsiousness for death, so they shocked her with a defibrillator. Shocking a living person with a still beating heart does weird things to people. I'll never forget how she looked: her eyes were bulging and she kept screaming; my, my, MY PURSE! While jerking her head to the side over and over again. Just a constant loop of: my, my, MY PURSE! in a real screechy high-pitched voice.
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that when someone really is dead and we shock them, even if/when they come around they are still unconscious for a while, so we don't know what the extra electrical activity has done to their brains. In this case, however, we saw. The jolt caused her to literally glitch, and she was stuck in that loop. Eventually she came out of it, but for a few minutes she just kept screeching: my, my, MY PURSE!

It's like they always say, you can eat sausage but you don't want to see how it's made. That's probably true of most food unless you grew and/or raised and slaughtered it yourself. Just working in a supermarket and seeing how dirty things are in shipping and storing was an eye-opener for sure. Not even talking about overly gross situations or anything. Watching shoppers pop a few loose grapes in their mouth without washing them. Bleech!! If they only knew how dirty those things were coming off the trucks. I did have a good laugh when I worked overnights a few times and would watch the night crew take lobsters out of the tank and race them down the aisles. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

Do you actually work with the residents? If so I would think that's an emotionally (and physically) difficult job. Yes, I do - I usually work in the same housing unit (there are 5 in total), though sometimes I'll get shifted around, 'cause we're quite understaffed - my job, other than mundane things like handing out pills/application of medicine in general and the serving of meals comprises assisting with personal hygiene, getting people ready for, and into bed (I usually work evenings), etc. - most residents are wheelchair users and have moderate/severe dementia - there's a lot of working with hydraulic lifts and the like. It can be tough at times, though emotionally I detach myself from the situation quite naturally, while keeping basic professionalism - thanks for your words of commendation, though (you too, 007). What do you guys do? (I realize I could just scroll back and read, but this seems more inquisitive).

| I'm a warehouse manager (shipping and receiving and the like). My daughter worked in a nursing home for quite a few years and didn't mind the work. She now works as a teacher's aide at a school for special needs children and loves it. | |

It could be good. If a person is that miserable that they want to get themselves fired on purpose (especially if that person wants to quit in lieu of getting fired intentionally) then that sounds like a person who is miserable doing the job they're currently doing. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I'm miserable, worn out and tired. Finding a new job will be easy. Finding one I think I'll be happy with is the challenge. Truck driving jobs are everywhere. Unfortunately it seems that most of them treat their drivers like shit, and overwork them like dogs. Do I want to get fired? No, but its it happens then it's probably a blessing.
