Well, went to my Company's Health Occupation department - to have a hearing check done.
Once a year - all workers must go - to a hearing conservation meeting - one hour long.
The instructor teaches us whats loud - etc - examples - projector images - blah blah.

So I went into a phone booth. Had headphones put on me. Was given a clicker.
Everytime I heard 3 beeps...I was to press down on the clicker.
Afterwards - she read the results - not good -
She wanted to know if I had been in the milatary ? No......
" I played in rock bands for 10 years or so "......hmm.........
" And I blast music in my car ".............
She looked at me sadly, because, as we all know, hearing doesn't come back.
Curious -
Anyone else having slight trouble - hearing certian sound frequencies.....?

I have no doubt that my hearing has suffered from years of abuse. Concerts, loud nightclubs and blasting headphones in my youth have taken their toll. I'm more careful about it now, but like you said, the damage is done.

I wear earplugs now when I go to shows. It cuts down on the feedback and actually makes the sound better.

I have to take these tests as well. And I don't fare well with them either. I'm like MG with trying to be more careful. I've been wearing earplugs to shows for a number of years now.

Due in part to a growth in my right ear being removed some 30 years ago I have very little hearing in that ear.

Being hard of hearing is no fun, but I have been managing for a LONG time, so much so that I can not recall hearing properly.

The ear / hearing conservation guy at work -
gave a half hour meeting yesterday -
and this was what he put on the video screen -
Guy also said - if you put earplugs in correctly - no one can see em.

As someone who still plays live music, I started being careful with my hearing fairly early. I started wearing plugs to concerts in my 20s and I got on the in-ear monitor bandwagon pretty early as well, which has been great. I can play for hours and not have any ringing in my ears or the muffled feeling we've all had after a loud show.

That being said, I can tell that my left ear is not as good as the right....probably because that's the side that faced the drummer all these years.
