Over the weekend, I watched Godzilla vs Hedorah, twice. Once with my wife and once with my 7yo.

Good fun.

I actually got to see that in the theater when I was a kid. Immensely enjoyable to my young eyes. I still find it entertaining but it is such an odd movie. The weird hallucination scene where everyone has fish heads (if I'm remembering correctly), the animation interludes contrasted by showing victims of Hedorah (which really wasn't shown in the previous Godzilla films save for maybe the original flick). Just a surreal movie.

Finished up the first season of Dark on Netflix. A rather compelling story that deals with the abduction of children in a small German town that spans over several decades due to the aspect of time travel. Interesting concept that you have to follow closely because of the jumping around from today to 1986 and now even 1953.

What did you think of that one?  I know it got panned pretty much by all and sundry, but I thought it was a fun little romp.  Brings to mind all the cheesy 80's action flicks, where you just turn your brain off and enjoy the pretty explosions  Laughing

Watched Amazon's The Boys in my first binge since--I dunno, Lost? Anyway, great show, methinks a bunch of members here would really latch onto it. Dark as hell and gory to boot. Basically an enlightening view on superheroes if they were owned by a corporate entity and abused their celebrity status, collaterally affecting innocents. Still in my thought banks and made a lasting impression. Haven't had this type of experience with a show since Breaking Bad. Highly recommended, even though not perfect (there are some issues I have). And morally ambiguous.

I definitely wanna check that show out!  Looks like it's right up my alley.  From all of the bits and pieces I've seen, Karl Urban plays the Billy Butcher character to the hilt!

I liked it, because like you said it was meant to be a fun, action movie, not a work of art

The Last Exorcism(2010)-a pastor who has lost his faith, decides to make a documentary to debunk exorcisms. He is soon asked to help a teenage girl whose father is convinced that she is possessed. At first, the pastor doesn't believe that she is actually possessed, but as the filming continues he soon discovers that something sinister is at hand. While this wasn't the best "found footage" movie I've seen, it was at least passable, I suppose. I'll give it 2 out of 5 exorcists.

"Happy Death Day 2U" (2019)

Sequel to the surprise 2017 horror-comedy hit finds our collegiate heroine "Tree" stuck in a time loop yet again, repeating the same day over & over and trying to avoid being killed by a masked slasher.
The first "Happy Death Day" was essentially a horror version of "Groundhog Day," but this one adds a sci-fi element ala "Back to the Future" as it reveals how Tree got stuck in the loop to begin with.
Not a must-see but an entertainingly silly time killer.

"They Call Her Cleopatra Wong" (1978)

A lady INTERPOL agent stationed in the Philippines is assigned to smash a massive counterfeiting ring that has the potential to destroy the Asian economy. Lots of chop-socky silliness ensues.
...so basically, some Hong Kong movie producers decided that Asia needed its own "Foxy Brown" or "Coffy." The leading lady Marrie Lee is cute, and it's fun watching her kick butt on a seemingly endless array of evil doers for awhile, but everything else about this movie -- acting, dubbing, dialogue, production values, etc. -- is utter crap. Followed by two sequels, which I will be sure to avoid.
Fun fact: in some parts of the world, the advertising for this movie suggested that Marrie Lee was Bruce Lee's sister. (She isn't.)

"Airplane!" (1980)

The classic gag-a-minute parody of airline disaster films is still one of the funniest movies ever made, bar none. You've all seen it, you all know it by heart, it rules, and don't call me Shirley.

"The Great Alligator" (1979, aka "Alligator," "The Great Alligator River," and "Caiman," among other titles)

The grand opening of a safari-themed resort hotel somewhere in the tropics is threatened by the sudden appearance of a giant man-eating alligator.  The critter was summoned by the pissed-off local native tribe who worship it as a God and want the stupid white people to go away. Lots of predictable water logged chaos ensues, as some familiar faces like Mel "Nightmare City" Ferrer and Barbara "The Spy Who Loved Me" Bach try to stay off the menu.
...so yeah, this is a pretty typical Italian monster mash, composed of bits stolen from "Jaws" and "Piranha," mixed with the then-popular cannibal/savage tribe genre. It's got the usual cheap special effects (the alligator looks like a rubber bathtub toy), comical dialogue, and awkward dubbing. It's not the worst spaghetti creature feature I've ever seen, but it's certainly not a must-see either.

Been watching Amazing Stories, Spielberg's "edgy" anthology show from the 80's. A lot worth talking about, not without interest, and a great skip through memory lane. Might write more later.

Also decided to shoot for The Young Riders, pleasantly surprised. Anyone remember this "Young Guns for network TV?"

"Lords of Chaos" (2018)

Dramatized re-telling of the saga of Mayhem, a group of Norwegian teens whose obsession with creating the most extreme, nihilistic, anti-Christian music ever spills over into a series of church burnings and murders.
If you can get past the fact that these "Norwegians" all speak perfect American-accented English (haha), this is a pretty decent, gritty drama that doesn't shy away from the ultra-violence and features an excellent performance by Rory Culkin (yup, Macauley's brother) as the ultimately doomed Oystein "Euronymous" Aarseth.
Anti-social fun for everyone!

Finished season 2 of Netflix's Dark series. Can't wait for the third and final season.

Started Netflix's updated Lost In Space series, based on the goofy '60s series. Much better than the original show.

What I love about this is how totally bent out of shape Varg has gotten about it! lol!

It's a fun movie but not particularly accurate (although as virtually all of the protagonists are completely full of shit, who knows?)

Haha! I hear he was especially pissed that the guy who played him in the movie is Jewish. I almost wonder if they did that on purpose just cuz they knew he'd flip, haha.
I'm told that Varg also posted a lengthy list online of everything they got "wrong" about him, right down to "I never drink chocolate milk" and "I never liked the Scorpions," hah!

Yep, the only guys who really know how it went down are either dead or completely nuts... so was the movie accurate? Probably not... but was it entertaining? Yes.

Masters of Horror:Dance of the Dead-Director Tobe Hooper and actor Robert Englund team together in this post apocalyptic tale about a young girl who hooks up with a gang to get away from her overbearing mother.  The group goes to an underground club where reanimated corpses are used in a stage show for entertainment.  She soon discovers that one of the zombies is her missing sister.  Of all the MOH episodes I have seen so far, this might be my least favorite as I felt the story was underdeveloped and it might have been better off being a full movie instead of it being crammed into a tv show.  I'll give it 1.5 out of 5.

Yeah there were some interesting ideas in that episode but I agree that it didn't feel fleshed out properly.

"Becoming Bond" (2017)

A mix of vintage clips, interviews and tongue-in-cheek re-enactments tell the odd story of George Lazenby, the Australian male model and used-car salesman with no acting experience, who still somehow managed to bullshit his way into taking over the role of James Bond from Sean Connery in 1968. George soon realized that stardom didn't agree with him, so he walked away after only making one 007 film, and has been little more than a footnote in Bond history ever since.

The Banana Splits Movie

The Cardinal game tonight was postponed so I stupidly decided to watch my copy of The Banana Splits Movie that came today.

Holy crap is this movie bad! For one thing, it's boring as hell for about all but the last 15 or 20 minutes. The gore factor picks up at the end but by then you are long past caring.

This is a classic example of a great idea being totally botched in the execution.
