I have a few in my collection that I grabbed for a low price (HammerFall, Helloween, Edguy, Leatherwolf, Maiden) but usually for the bonus tracks or exclusive demo type stuff. It has to have a functionality to it for me to plunk down a ten spot; and be more than just a single song , rare collector's item. What do you all think?

If there's nothing exclusive to it (or for me, if the only exclusive tracks are live), then it's not worth getting.

I have a handful of them that I've picked up in my travels over the years but never went out of my way for 'em.

I have seen plenty but usually they are an album single, no front insert and no additional tracks so really no value.
As mentioned of there is a B'side or something other than a lame live track or a "remix" with a 1/2 second more tape hiss than forget it.
That said I do have a few but they have been either autographed or have some form of extras. Pearl Jam did it right when they were releasing singles many moons ago as they always were basically EP's.

I have a ton. If there is exclusive content, I'm all over it. If not, I might grab it if it's super-cheap, but otherwise I'll pass. But yeah, unreleased songs and such is a good thing, I think.

Sometimes. I particularly like promo CD singles.

I never grab them, just not the worth the money for me. If I saw a CD single cheap with an exclusive track than I might grab it, but I never look for them

I used to buy singles just to get to hear a song prior to the release of the album.
Now, with youtube and stuff, it's not necessary. I buy if there's decent bonus material.
There aren't really that many CD singles anymore anyway, are there?

Every now and then a band will release one, but CD singles aren't very common. =(

Singles seem to be more of an iTunes thing now.

I have some. Not many to be honest. But if they don't have any exclusive tracks I don't pick them up.

I just picked up Brainstorm's Fire Walk With Me single just to get the exclusive tune Breathe (which kicks ass). I got it for $3.81, including shipping through ebay. Not a bad deal, I'd say.

I almost never do this. With one notable exception:
I love the original version but this version not only cuts out a bit of superfluous though interesting stuff, it also seems to punch up the heavier aspects of this song. That's why I bought it. It just seems like a "better" version of what I think is a great song.
EDIT: I also buy KMFDM singles because most of the time those aren't available on any album.

Therapy? used to release a ton of singles, all of which had unreleased b-sides, and many of which were excellent tunes. Like this one...
One of the best songs they've ever written!
A lot of bands have done that sort of thing, like the Wildhearts. TONS of killer b-sides. Sometimes why they left a song off an album is obvious, like the song just doesn't fit with the vibe of the album, but other times the song fits perfectly and some bonehead felt it wasn't as good or whatever.

That's not a bad song but I've given Therapy? several chances and everything I've bought has sounded like that; I hear the potential and I want to like it but it's just too quirky and progressive for me.

I buy them and have a fairly nice collection. I don't go out of my way to buy them unless they are a limited edition. 1 for instance, I just got was Captain Beyond - Uranus Expressway gold, recorded from 1972-1973.
