| Taken from AC/DC's Facebook page - Quote :
It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Malcolm Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Malcolm had been suffering from Dementia for several years and passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside.
Renowned for his musical prowess Malcolm was a songwriter, guitarist, performer, producer and visionary who inspired many. From the outset, he knew what he wanted to achieve and, along with his younger brother, took to the world stage giving their all at every show. Nothing less would do for their fans.
Malcolm is survived by his loving wife O'Linda, children Cara and Ross, son-in-law Josh, three grandchildren, sister and brother.
While thanking all for their overwhelming support and heartfelt condolences, the family ask that you respect their privacy during this time of heartbreak and grief.
For those wishing to send messages to the family please visit the Sydney Morning Herald Malcolm Young Memorial website which will be available next week.
The family have asked instead of flowers to send donations to The Salvation Army.

| Damn. It's been a bad year for the Youngs. Angus & Malcolm's older brother George just passed away a few weeks ago.
This is a tough one for me. "Let There Be Rock" was the first rock album I ever owned. If it weren't for AC/DC I might not be the metal obsessed nerd I am today. They started it all for me.
R.I.P. Malcolm...and thanx _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Yeah I wasnt a hardcore fan of AC/DC but I am a fan and this really bums me out. I havent been able to find anything else confirming it but if it came from the official AC/DC page cant get more credible than that.
I knew he was sick i couldnt remember with what but such a shame.... RIP Malcolm your legacy will live on

| He lived a good life and accomplished a lot. A big contributor to heavy music, and a beloved rock star. Thanks, Malcolm! | |

| RIP to one of the most (if not the most) rock solid rhythm guitarist in hard music. Back in Black formed the background music for much of my senior year in high school and AC/DC has been a constant presence in my listening ever since. RIP Malcolm. The music world is a little dimmer today.

| I think most of us can say, where would our listening interests be if it weren't for a band like AC/DC? They were a pivotal band for me in my earliest of years. When I first got my drivers license, there were only a few tapes I owned and most of them were AC/DC. The convertible top was down and their music was blasting out of my speakers.

| R.I.P. Malcolm Young.
A lot of very famous rock stars have died this year: Chris Cornell, Gregg Allman, Chester Bennington, Tom Petty, and now Malcolm Young.
Keith Richards, on the other hand, continues to play hooky from the Grim Reaper.

| I knew the day would come but it doesn’t make the news any less sad. Thanks for all the music and Rest In Peace. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| AC DC remain relative for me. I love cranking Rock or Bust. Play Ball. Stiff Upper Lip. Rock and Roll Train. Even Jail Break was in my car two weeks ago. I love driving to those tunes. Listening to them over and over. I've read a few books about them. Malcom was the boss. He was hard nosed. Had a problem drinking in 86 ? or so...but was back on board soon enough with that Thunderstruck album. He was like Johnny Ramone. You think those songs are easy to play.....but you just can't capture that incredible unique sound. One funny thing I heard, he was always miffed that he didn't get as many chicks as the others, in the early days. He felt he was just as good looking ! | |

| These guys were my 'gateway band' to rock and metal (Manny came up with that term BTW). As I wrote on Facebook:
The first hard rock/heavy metal riff to ever pierce my skull was this dude's right here--Big Gun, 1993. It was so phenomenally beefy and smooth that I went right out and explored more of AC/DC with a fat trouble-making grin on my face. Tons of love for Angus, but Malcom was my muse. For me he was the centerpiece of every video and concert I watched. He had this fierce, boiling menace, planted firmly in one spot while unleashing some of the greatest rhythm guitar I've ever heard in rock n' roll. His passing is no surprise with the condition he's been in for years now, but still I'm a tad overwhelmed by his passing in realizing how much an influence he had over me in my formative years. RIP, Malcom, and keep tearing it up, hopefully with Bon this time around.
