Subject: Are these the "End Times"? Mon Sep 04, 2017 2:24 am
Lots of Christian, or religious-leaning, peeps started this forum 15 years ago. Some are still around. The 2 main guys are no longer with us [for all intents and purposes].
What are your thoughts on John the Revelator and his writings? So, do you believe the times we are living are part of "prophecy", strange coincidences, or just the natural order of things?

When Kid Rock formally announces his run for a seat in the senate, I do believe that will break the Seventh Seal.

I was raised in a Christian home and I've been hearing this "end times" stuff for as long as I can remember. Personally I think it's a religious "scare tactic"; part of the "turn or burn" strategy. Eventually it really will be the "end times" but I also was taught that "no man knoweth the hour" so trying to predict when the end times are actually occurring seems pretty pointless to me. If you're right with God it really doesn't matter whether these are the end times or not IMO.

same here with me. My eschatological point of view is we have been in the end times for awhile (I am an amillennialist) and the whole Kirk Cameron dramatics is trying to scare people.

Jim Bakker (remember him?) is banking on it.
In fact he's so convinced that the End Times are coming that he wants to sell you his special Survival Food Buckets so you can ride out those Apocalypse food shortages in full-bellied comfort.
These fabulous feed packages can be yours today starting at the low, low price of just $900 for a four year supply! Order now, operators are standing by!
(P.S. I wish I could say I made that up, or that this video was an SNL sketch, but nope, it's real ..)

This is mighty generous of Ole Jimmy though: right now, for every $175 bucket of Apocalypse Gruel you buy, he will donate one to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. What a swell guy.
Side note, I cannot take credit for the term "Apocalypse Gruel," I got that from a YouTube commenter, but I will say it would be an awesome name for a band.

Apocalypse Gruel reminds me of a friend of mine who was in a band called The Judgment Day Refreshment Committee.

It just occurred to me that I was confusing Jim Bakker with Jimmy Swaggart. It's tough keeping disgraced 1980s televangelists straight!

it doesn't matter, your critique applies in either case.

I am not sure what is worse, the fact Jim Baker is selling Apocalypse Gruel or that people are stupid enough to buy it.

What Toho said
Another thing to consider is, God is outside of time. I do believe its a scare tactic but i also see the decay of everything around us and I have to wonder..... people have been saying its the end times since the 1900s and prob. longer I do believe we are in the end times but that could last for centuries before it actually is the end...

Yea, wow. If you showed me a pic and said "guess who?" I wouldn't have thought in a million years Jim Bakker. Mostly because I thought he was dead. I guess I was thinking of his wife. Or Jerry Falwell. There seemed to be so many of those shysters back in the 80's.

Book of Revelations and prophecy... I believe every bit of it is true and some of it has already happened, some of it is happening now, and some of it will happen in the future... Jesus also said that not even he knows when the end of time is... that only God the Father Knows so I'm not going to worry about it... since God is in charge of it all it'll happen when it happens and there's nothing we can do about it...

I think life in today's world is pretty safe and peaceful compared to the horrendous history of mankind. I think we're headed in the right direction.
Look at what the British were up to in the previous century, for instance:
I think a lot of the horrors of the past are quickly forgotten. Everyone focuses on their own era and "signs" and stuff. But it's all happened a million times already, and in larger and worse ways. Yet, there is no end in sight.

not excusing Baker or his ilk but the whole preppers movement is a fascinating study in fear-mongering. The amount of money people spend for food prepping all the way up to building shelters underground is both amusing and frightening.
I dont think Baker misses a trick though - I would have thought prison would have taught him a lesson.

Yep, the earliest Christians thought that they were living in the end times and every generation of Christians since. I'm still waiting for martial law and getting herded into a Walmart death camp!
All I now is I'm going to die sometime in the future, I'm not over keen to know when.

Based on his playlist post from 2 pm today I'd say manny is still alive and well and still listening to the most diverse list of music of anyone on this board.
