Now that I have that song stuck in your mind, I'll get on with the real reason I am making this thread. Have you ever ran into someone online or in person that greatly affected your life? Just random places where you see someone that unbeknownst to them, they are a part of who you are.

It happened to me last night on youtube. Back in the 80's there was this radio station that played underground metal music once a week late at night. It was this station that guided me on my metal journey for the most part. It wasn't like I could go online to look up a band. I relied on magazines, friends, and radio. Of course most radio sucked, much like today, but this one station played the real stuff once a week. They also played industrial and jazz of all things.

I used to religiously listen to this station once a week so I could hear what new bands were out. I would sit there well after bed time on a school night, with my headphones on so as not to let my grandmother know I was still up, and listen to this thing every week. Every song that I liked, I would hope the DJ would say the band name so I could write it down and go out and buy the record or tape.

Well, as fate would have it, I actually ran into a DJ from that station while searching for music on youtube last night. I mean what are the chances? It's not like I was on the stations youtube channel, or stalking this dude for years trying to find him. I just happened to read a comment he left about how he used to play the band I was listening to on his radio station. It blew me away to run into the dude that was responsible for me discovering bands like Slayer, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Possessed, Exodus, ect ect...The music he introduced me to is still a major part of my life to this day.

Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you have had something similar happen? Guess it doesn't have to be music related, could be anything.

I was at a club to hear the bands....my pals and I were drinking beer and scoping chicks when this older dude pulled up a stool and sat with us. We were not friendly but also not rude. He hardly spoke for 1-2 minutes and then introduced himself: Dan McCaffery (sp.?) , my musical hero, singer of Nazareth. He hung with us until the band went on.
In Calgary in a pub, some stranger sat at our table, very cool and friendly - at the time he was quarterback for the Stampeders; shortly after, he joined the 49ers: Jeff Garcia

I was pretty big into Seventh Angel back in High School. One of my favorite bands. Flash forward more than two decades and I'm heavily into N Scale/Gauge Model Railroading. I'm on this British site all the time called ngaugeforumuk. Well, there's this modeler who's just outstanding. His photos look so life-like. He's incredible. Turns out he's Ian Arkley of Seventh Angel! Shocked Just a regular guy who loves trains. He's just one of the guys on that site and it's just weird to me to chat with a guy about trains who I listened to on a loop as a kid.

What was his name, by the way ?
I used to listen to a once a week show too...,
A Emerson college station....Nasty Habits.....Boston.....
I couldn't believe it was a black guy.....Mike ...something....Jones ?
But he played all the great early  stuff...demo RATT.....Malice....Pretty Maids...Sword..
Interviews...even James Hetfield when touring kill em all......Manowar....etc...
I tape recorded the show....it was on sundays....10 pm to 2 am....
Would listen to the tape all week..,,buy the music...
he'd tell you what nightclub shows was happening...,big concerts....
What record store to go to " Rocket Records " about five towns away...
Even those first hints of GnR about to explode....
Metal was so underground...and much fun....
So glad I went through it all.....even the downfall.....,
Believe me, I was as shocked as the musicians to see metal crash and burn...
Parties even became so much different....

I don't remember what his name was. I could look up the video and tell you his YouTube name, but it's not the same guy. My radio station was a local college station in Las Vegas. Sounds like they were both pretty similar, but they didn't do any interviews from what I remember.

Agree with being glad to grow up when metal was growing also. The only thing I regret is, I didn't really grasp what was happening. I never really thought about how new and different it was. How special a time it really was. At least till it kind of dive bombed anyways. It's a small world 604261
