RIP Maurice White (E, W & F)

Maurice White, co-founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, died in his sleep Thursday morning ... TMZ has learned.

Maurice died in L.A. after a long battle with Parkinson's. He was diagnosed in 1992 and his condition deteriorated in recent months. The disease had progressed to the point he was forced to stop touring in with the band 1994.

The band had a string of hits, including "Shining Star," "September," "Boogie Wonderland," and "After the Love has Gone."

In 2000, the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Maurice was individually inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010.

Maurice's brother, Verdine, is also a band member.

Although Maurice wasn't touring, he remained involved in the decisions involving the band.

Maurice was 74.

Another one of those 70s bands that I couldn't stand while they were popular but grew to appreciate as I got older.

I'm sure I've danced to more than my share of E,W & F tunes at wedding receptions over the years. Rest in peace, sir.

With all these recent music deaths, someone on Classic Rock.com did the math. Going with musicians that hit their stride in their 20's during the mid-1960's, they are all hitting 70+ this year. And given their past (or current) lifestyle choices, we'll probably see quite a few passings in the next few months.

Man another one gone. This has been a rough year for deaths in the music industry.

I liked Earth, Wind and Fire, i distinctively remember that "Let's Groove" was the first song i ever heard of them from an audio cassette my father had (with all kinds of music on it) andi like them. I have Let's Groove, September, Shining Star and Africano on my GTA 5 Playlist
