"Sharknado: The 4th Awakens" (2016)
SyFy's favorite campy schlock franchise is back for a 4th go-round and it's goofier than the previous three installments combined. Earth has been Sharknado-free for five years, and the heroic Finn (Ian Ziering) is living the quiet life in Kansas with his young son. Naturally, he gets called back into action when a new set of storms threatens life as we know it.
At this point the Sharknado crew isn't even trying to make a "serious" film anymore - this is just a series of cartoonish action sequences glued together with cheap CGI, blink-and-you'll-miss-em D-list celebrity cameos (incl. Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, Carrot Top, Gilbert Gottfried, Stacey Dash, and Vince Neil), and nods to "Star Wars," "The Terminator," and "The Wizard of Oz." In other words... it's a big overstuffed what-the-f**k sandwich. It's hilarious if you're in the right frame of mind for it, but if you're not already a fan of the series, you don't need to bother.

The Green Inferno
This wasn't nearly as gory or disgusting as the redband trailer led me to believe. And it actually gets pretty silly in the middle. The first death is the only really gory one. There is a lot of lush cinematography and the cannibals are fairly creepy (they're actually a real Amazon tribe) but anyone hoping for an update/homage to the cannibal horror subgenre of the 70s will be disappointed.

The Night Stalker (1972) - TV movie with Darren McGavin making his first appearance as investigative reporter Carl Kolchak. This story takes place in Las Vegas dealing with a series of vampire killings. Also starring Simon Oakland as Kolchak's boss Tony Vincenzo, Carol Lynley as Kolchak's girlfriend, Claude Akins as the local sheriff, and Barry Atwater as the vampire with the Moe Howard haircut. This movie was so popular that it spawned a sequel the following year.....
The Night Strangler (1973) - Kolchak is now in Seattle (after losing his job in Vegas) and get's hired by his former boss Vincenzo (now in charge of a Seattle paper). This go around, Kolchak is investigating murders where all the victims are strangled by a person strong enough to crush their necks. The victims also have a small amount of blood drained from them. Kolchak's investigations lead him into Seattle's underground city against a seemingly centuries old man. Another good supporting cast in this one, with John Carradine, Al "Grandpa Munster" Lewis, Margaret "Wicked Witch of the West" Hamilton, Wally "Underdog" Cox, Jo Ann Pflug, and Richard "Oscar Goldman" Anderson. This movie was popular enough to prompt ABC to order the fun but uneven series Kolchak:The Night Stalker, a childhood favorite of mine.

As do I. It has some really good effective episodes but started to run out of steam quickly.
Both of the TV movies were released as a set on dvd a few years ago but I've never ran across that. I watched both movies on youtube.

"The Bronx Executioner" (1989)
A future lawman is assigned to his new "territory" in the post-apocalypse Bronx, which is in the midst of an ongoing gang war between "androids" and "humanoids." Lots of people shoot each other and chase each other around on motorcycles. The end. According to IMDb, a large portion of this godawful Italian schlock epic consists of footage recycled from a previous action flick, which might explain why "Bronx Executioner" seems so utterly random, plotless, and pointless. There's a reason why Amazon Prime Streaming offers movies like these for free... because if they charged customers for them, they'd want refunds!

"Spy In Your Eye" (aka "Bang! You're Dead!", 1965)
An American agent protects an East German scientist's daughter from a variety of Russian and Chinese spies who are after her late father's secret death-ray formula. ...yep, it's yet another cheap Italian spy flick with an American leading man (Brett Halsey of Return of the Fly) trying to be Bond. Strangely, the "Eye" in the title actually refers to a secondary character (Dana Andrews) whose glass eye conceals a TV camera implanted by the Russians so they can spy on the good guys. Very few of these "Eurospy" movies are very good but this one was particularly talky and slow moving; I may have actually dozed off for a few minutes, yet when I woke up it didn't feel like I'd missed anything!

"2 Lava 2 Lantula" (2016)
Steve "Police Academy" Guttenberg returns as has-been action star Colton West in the sequel to last year's surprise SyFy hit. This time he's shooting a new movie in Florida when those pesky fire-breathing subterranean spiders make an appearance, causing more of the usual mayhem and destruction. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice scenes which nod to "Star Wars," "Independence Day," "The Karate Kid," "2001" and even "Dr. Strangelove" (to name just a few). Silly as hell but lots of fun.

"The Wraith" (1986)
A gang of murderous Arizona street racers and car thieves are being picked off one by one by a guy in a souped up, futuristic vehicle that may not be of this earth. An oh-so-'80s-it-hurts car crashin' cult classic with a supernatural bent, starring a pre-"winning!" Charlie Sheen, a pre-psycho Randy Quaid and an uber-fiiiiine Sherilyn Fenn, and featuring songs by Motley Crue, Lion, Ozzy, Robert Palmer and Billy Idol. Tons of mindless retro fun!

Class of 1984
I've seen this 1981 film multiple times and I keep waiting for it's premise to become dated. Sadly that's not the case. And every time I watch this film I can't wait for the hoodlum kids to start dying and the more horrible the deaths, the better.
I must be getting jaded because every time I watch this movie it seems less and less gory.

Look Who's Back
Hitler's back and he's funnier than ever!! The Fuhrer is alive in 2014 Berlin and he's a reality star tv sensation. This satire goes from hilarious to dreadfully dark. It's on Netflix and has subtitles, but well worth a viewing if you like black comedies. It's especially poignant in our current political state of affairs. It's based on a best selling book.
