| Decent song, but lacking what once made Metallica great: hooks. Vocal, guitar, bass, whatever; their albums used to be loaded with hooks. After Load and Reload, though, those all but disappeared.
I dig the artwork. | |

Like the song (although not blown away) James hasn't written a lyric worth a damn in decades but he is getting worse. Yea, that sums it up pretty nicely for me too. Thanks for saving me the time having to come up with my own opinion, Boris. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Song was good. I'm prefer the Mustaine stuff and post TBA material so this was good to me although I found the solo to be typical Kirk it just ended awkwardly.

| I heard the new song. Sounded better than Death Magnetic. Video was awful with unfocused, epilepsy-inducing fast cuts. Almost as annoying as videos with super slow motion.
If you're gonna do a band performance video for a gritty thrash song, the simpler the better - smoke, giant amps and normal speed camera shots. It works.

I dunno, that dude has been happily and lazily stuck in pentatonic meedly-meedly mode his entire career. I don't think he's lazy at all. It's not that he himself is lazy, but his approach to technique is. I've played through every one of his solos up through the Black album and it's the same thing every time: boxed pents, constant whammy slams, sixteenth triplets that aren't always very well articulated. He actually plays more like a blues man. Mustaine at least pulls out some jazz stops and multi-faceted dynamics here and there (on top of having virtuosos taking most of the lead responsibilities). But that's not necessarily a complaint on my end. I think it's actually charming, and I admire his confidence in not indulging in advancing his vocabulary (i.e. Tipton-Downing). All his noodling, basic at it is, has somehow added character to the band's music. But I have become very indifferent to his musical presence in the past 15 years.

I found his style suited the Load/ReLoad era a lot more and thought he had some good stuff sprawled throughout like on "Devil's Dance". In fact, the solo intended for "Sweet Amber" gave that song an extra sense of grasping desperation.

| The song is ok The whole thing though feels like the band is running after Iron Maiden "If they can release a 2CD album and make it a hit, we can do!" just like everything they did after Justice for all, they are turning into the metal version of Kiss: following trends instead of creating them. | |

I don't see doing a 2CD album automatically means they are following in Maiden's footsteps, 2CD albums in general are becoming more common now.

| The chorus is beyond juvenile, the main riff lackluster. They sound generic and lifeless to me,like a band going through the motions. They're better off doing the whole Black Album/Load/Reload style. At least it was honest and from the heart unlike this corporate dad-rock that sounds phoned in and out of original ideas. | |

I strongly disagree, this dosen't sound anything remotely like "corporate rock"(WTF does that term even mean?), I didn't feel Load or Re-Load were particularly honest albums at all. To me with those albums it felt like the band was jumping headfirst onto the alternative rock bandwagon, with this song it sounds like they are going back to their roots.

That's how I feel too. I'm not bothered about thrash or not but this thing sounds great! Just straight ahead and muscular in a way that they haven't sounded in a long time, even the drums sound fine. I'm hoping for Master of Puppets meets Death Magnetic and this is the Damage Inc type song (hopeful I know)
