What I've learned from this thread...
Orange Goblin is on my WANT list now! Sort of in the tribe of Motorhead/The Sword/Clutch/Robot Lords of Tokyo/Fireball Ministry - In that vein. (Biker metal?) Love it!
Opeth - Pale Communion - I don't get this at all. Not my thing, I guess. I find myself bored listening to it.
Judas Priest - not bad, not bad at all. Going to revisit this some more. Might pick it up.
Orange Goblin has been releasing killer albums since the 90s, you should enjoy pretty much their entire catalog.
I just checked my Last.Fm stats and it says I've listened to Pale Communion 132 times since it came out in September...and that doesn't include the times I've played the LP so you could probably add another 40 plays or so. Of course I'm a major fanatic of progressive rock and jazz fusion so it's right in the sweet spot for me.
The Priest was kind of a pleasant surprise for me, I ended up liking a little over half of the album very much. I realized after adding up the playing time of the songs I liked it came out to right around 41 minutes...so old school LP length.

I've listened to the new Sanctuary more than anything else so I would have to say that one.

Opeth - Pale Communion.
Agree
This one is mood music for me. If I'm in a certain mood, it's absolutely mesmerizing. If I'm in other moods, I can't get it into it at all and find it boring. Definitely a great piece of work either way, though.
+1, love Opeth, but def mood music….

By the way, Midnight Malice is selling the Japanese version of their album on their website. It's an actual CD, not a CDR and it has their demo as bonus tracks. They are offering it for $18CDN and with the favorable exchange rate, I got the album for $18 US including shipping.

Thanks for the tip, I finally pulled the trigger on this as I wasn't going to pay the kind of money that some people over here wanted for a cheapo CD-R but this was pretty reasonable.

I remember when CD burners first started coming out in the late 90s, I bought a spinner of budget blanks at Comp USA that looked JUST like that see-through disc. The punchline is I still have a few of those left in my collection and they all still play over 15 years later.

That album doesn't play in my car. Most CDRs don't. Still super-annoying.

You need a car with a USB port. Since I got one back in 2011 my CD obsession has gone waaaaaay down. That coupled with my purchase of a SanDisk sport has finally cured me of my aversion to legal downloads. These days, unless the CD + shipping is super-cheap I buy the download. Then stuff like a flimsy CD becomes irrelevant.
EDIT: I also like that I don't have a bunch of CDs laying on the passenger seat anymore. Damn things used to end up all over the inside of my car.

Before we had our son, my truck had a port for my MP3 player. Unfortunately I had to get rid of the truck when we had the baby and got my wife's old hand-me-down Jeep while she got a new Rav4. Hers has the port for MP3 players, but the Jeep has an old system with a CD player and tape deck. And all the cones in the speakers are busted, so the drums on everything I play sounds like wet butt cheeks flapping together. Haha.
But yeah, I prefer to take an MP3 player. And honestly, I'm cool with a digital collection now. I'd sell my entire collection if I could do so all at once. Hell, I'd sell it at a heavily discounted price just to be rid of it all.
