Sad. I met him once at a Hollywood club in 2004. Very chill and quiet guy. He was mostly sitting with his girlfriend around a table and just enjoying the show from the balcony we were up at. RIP.

Bummed about this one. I really enjoy Static-X and his solo album. Felt bad for him in recent years as it seemed like all he wanted to do was get out there and tour as Static-X, but the ex-bass player caused all kinds of grief for him.
Shame either way. Most people just can't outrun drugs. It's too bad. =(

I'm not a Static X fan but this is very sad news and quite a loss to many. If it is a drug overdose, then it is also a senseless loss.

Man, It just seems like yesterday I was a 13 year old kid listening to Machine on constant rotation. Sad for such a loss, the man went through a lot of crap recently just wanting to play under the name of his band. RIP.

Can't say I'm terribly familiar with the band aside from seeing their name in metal mags during the 90s but 48's too young to go. R.I.P.

He was only 48, and was going to turn 49 on Tuesday. Way too young to go, either way.

I was a fan of the band and I really enjoyed their first three albums. I had not heard his solo album, but was saddened to hear of his death.

Surprisingly, reports are it's NOT drug-related...
Quote :
Rocker WAYNE STATIC's publicist has cleared up rumors suggesting the singer's tragic death on Saturday (01Nov14) was drug-related, insisting he had been sober since 2009. The former Static-X frontman passed away at the age of 48, and Twitter tributes have poured in from stars including Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Corgan, Dave Navarro and Papa Roach singer Jacoby Shaddix, who suggested a struggle with addiction was to blame for his untimely death. He wrote, "RIP Wayne. This is so sad. Too many musicians are dying from overdoses. I'm serious, addiction is real and takes fools out. No one is invincible. So glad I live a sober life today. The number of friends that I have lost to addiction is crazy... I know drugs and partying are part of the 'rock 'n' roll lifestyle,' but damn, how many more gotta die (sic)??? F**k the lifestyle, I want life!!!! See you on the other side, Wayne." Shaddix's posts sparked speculation Static had suffered a setback in his sobriety, but his representative has now spoken out to set the record straight.
Nancy B. Sayle reveals Static, who was married to adult actress Tera Wray, had not touched drugs in five years and had died in his sleep at his U.S. home, although a cause of death has yet to be announced. In a statement released to WENN, she adds, "Static's first solo album - Pighammer - was a tribute to his new non-drug life and hoped it would help others to get clean from hard chemical drugs. "More official information about his passing will be released in the following days. This is not a drug related incident or an O. D. (overdose). Please be courteous to his family and wife and leave positive messages".
...which makes it even more sad/bizarre if a 48 year old man just dropped dead from natural causes.

Interesting. Yesterday, Blabbermouth posted an article about Tony Campos's comments on Wayne's death. On their Facebook page I wrote: Considered him "a good friend," yet refused to let him take some time off to heal without continuing to pay him an obscene amount of money.
This morning I woke up to a Facebook message from Tony. He wasn't too pleased. Haha.
The story Wayne told is that he was paying Tony a bunch of money to tour under the Static-X name, but then he injured himself and needed time off. Supposedly Tony demanded he still be paid, even though the band wouldn't be touring and wouldn't be bringing in any money, effectively putting an end to Static-X. Seems like a shitty thing to do, yeah?
Well, Tony said this:
Quote :
Hey Ken. If you read my whole statement, you would've noticed that I said we weren't friends the last five years. Wayne Wells was my friend. The guy he turned into, Wayne Static, was not. As far as his "injury", the real reason he didn't continue is because he was busted for drugs on that tour. He even talks about it in an interview a year later. Do your research before you start making accusations.
So who know what is true and what isn't now. He doesn't deny demanding to still be paid, but if Wayne's injury wasn't really an injury at all, that changes things a bit. Still not sure it's right to demand money when the band wasn't touring, but bad blood in the mix probably didn't help matters. Who knows?
Guess I'm going to have to apologize. Now I feel like a turd. =(

I wasn't really trying to stir things up. I don't do that crap. Sometimes it's easy to forget how small the Internet world is, you know.
But it's cool, I apologized and we had a little back and forth. It's all good.

Even if he didn't overdose, his years of hard drug use may have weakened his heart.

My Dad died at almost the same age of a heart attack. No hard drugs, but a bit of a drinker and a smoker since his teens. If that can happen to an otherwise medically "normal" person at that age, imagine what would happen given even a history of hard drug use. He might have just been a ticking timebomb and his heart gave out or something along those lines.
Sad either way.

It's nice to see that Blabbermouth took time away from their riveting coverage of the whole "Gene Simmons - Rock is Dead" thing to acknowledge Wayne's passing.

Not sure if anyone has been paying attention to this band, but the original members (besides Wayne, of course) got back together to piece together an album of unreleased tunes and new tunes written around vocals left behind by Wayne. Supposedly Wayne would record vocals on one recorder, music on another, and they found a bunch of the vocal recordings.
Then they found more, I guess, so there will be two albums total. The first one just came out last Friday, and it's awesome!
Lots of drama around this one with their old pedo-band member Tripp Eisen claiming to having written parts of all the song, but whatever the case it's a kick-ass album. Where's Wayne's vocals were missing other people stepped in, like the singer for Dope (who's been touring with them) and Al Jourgensen.
This track didn't have any vocals from Wayne, so the new guy, Edsel, did all of them. You'd have no idea it wasn't Wayne on vocals. It's crazy.
Anyway, probably not many fans of the band here, but I figured I'd post about it just in case. =)

What's up with the new vocalist wearing the Wayne mask? Incredibly poor taste, much?

I was a fan of their first album, and even saw them a couple times. Second album never did shit for me, so i checked out after that. This song is pretty good though, might have to listen to some more and pick up a copy.

I have their first three albums, maybe that is all the albums Static X released, not sure, but I thought they were a great band. I did not buy Wayne Static's solo album, if I ever see it used and cheap I will pick it up.
I knew there was a version of Static X touring, but really without Wayne Static not there, I had no interest, but if the music is good enough I would be willing to check it out.
The song you posted is pretty good and I will check it out this version of the band further
