I think Robin Trower is a very interesting name to see - But I must say Robert Cray - he has some REALLY good songs - Bob Marley could pluck the notes too - Howlin' Wolf's guitar player Hubert Sumlin - major riffs for the Wolf -

Hmm.. Good question.
01. David Gilmour 02. Les Paul 03. Jeff Beck 04. Al Stewart (You may laugh, but check him out live!) 05. Martin Barre 06. Steve Bartek 07. Steve Hackett 08. Robert Fripp 09. Brian May 10. Adrian Belew
I'm just about 100% positive that my answers would change a bit if you asked me in a year, but figured I'd throw in anyway.

Me too. Mirage, Snow Goose, and Moonmadness have been in constant rotation here. I really need to explore further than those three and the debut. Some of the richest music that era had to offer.

Moonmadness is the last album with Bassist Doug Ferguson
I would get Rain Dances next, then the first album. After that, they start having good songs but not full good albums(at least until you get into the 1990s):
Breathless - Is quite a drop from the album before. It has 1 great song(one of their best imo) and two or three others that are good. Last album with Peter Bardens on keyboards.
I Can See your House From Here - I actually really like this album, but there are a lot of new wave-ish tracks on it. Two epic songs, though.
Nude - A pretty decent concept album that is a later one that is actually good all the way through. The song Lies is one of their best non-prog songs in their catalog! Last studio album with Andy Ward on drums.
The Single Factor - The name says it all. The record company pressure album to record singles. Some good tunes but far from their best. First album with Andy Latimer as the only remaining original member(though Bardens makes a guest appearance.).
Stationary Traveler - This album has a good concept, it is just not followed through very well. This one is more AORish type Prog.
Andy took a break in the 80s and moved to Cali. Then in the 90s started releasing albums again.
You cannot go wrong with any of these albums and I highly recommend them. Dust and Dreams Harbour of Tears Rajaz A Nod and a Wink
Moonmadness and Rain Dances are my two favorite Camel albums.
From the debut album Camel to Rain Dances they were on a great album roll!

I agree with pretty much with everything Chewie says.
However, I would grab the debut album, then grab Rain Dances next. Both of those are essential. He summed up the late 70s records quite well, some excellent material, some good material, some really cheesy bad pop material. I like the live album (titled "A Live Record") from 1978.
Also, if you can find a copy of Camel On The Road 1972, grab it!
I haven't heard the later albums yet, though I do have A Nod And A Wink and it's excellent.

The guitar is the reason I listen to music, so my list of top 10 would change too often to keep track. I agree with almost all the names posted so far. Right now I'd say:
Eddie Van Halen Guthrie Govan Jeff Beck (wired, blow by blow) Jimi Hendrix Eric Clapton (cream) Alan Holdsworth John McLaughlin Al DiMeola Joe Satriani David Gilmore
