*gasp* Guys we forgot about Bad Company and Free. Well, the criteria was "Top Ten Best Albums Ever Made prior to 1980"...some bands are bound to get left off.

True, but it doesn't have to be just the 70's, just can't go past December 31, 1979. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

True, but it doesn't have to be just the 70's, just can't go past December 31, 1979. Forgot about that part! I'd add in Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? to the list.... forgot about Rush - 2112 and I am sure a ton more great releases.....

| Looks like VH is getting a lot of love. I think their debut is the single most mentioned album in the thread. Then it's probably Rainbow Rising, Highway to Hell, Aerosmith's Rocks and UFO's Strangers in the Night that are the next most popular. - MetallicSeminarian wrote:

Wow, very similar tastes we have. Though I think Led Zep IV isn't even a top three Zeppelin album.

True, but it doesn't have to be just the 70's, just can't go past December 31, 1979. For some reason on the thread starter I read the word "decade" so I kept them all '70s.

| Well I thank u all for the lists as they work as "suggestions" for someone who is actually willing to get deeper into 70´s rock stuff (me). I heard UFO from youtube and it blew me away. Old Aerosmith, Deep Purple , AC-DC , all great stuff. | |

Same goes for me - a lot of albums that I haven't heard have been mentioned in people's top tens.

Rocks is a more consistently heavy album.

| ^^very true. I've always felt Toys to be a bit random. Rocks is just heavy hard Rock throughout. It's an intense experience. | |

| So, if it really was New Years Eve and 1979 was winding down, and I was picking the 10 Hardest Rocking albums to close out the festivities, and I was limited to one album max from any band, then it might have gone something like this....
I;ll order my list by year - just to be different:
Deep Purple – In Rock (1970) Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) Blue Oyster Cult – On Your Feet or on Your Knees (1975) Rush – All the Worlds a Stage (1976) Rainbow – Rising (1976) Thin Lizzy – Live and Dangerous (1978) AC / DC – Powerage (1978) UFO – Strangers in the Night (1979) Judas Priest – Unleashed in the East (1979) Motorhead – Overkill (1979)

Deep Purple – In Rock (1970) Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) DP - "In Rock" I thought about that, But I also thought it was from 69" Great Hard Rock album! BS - "SBS"- Hard to pick a fav. early 70's Sabbath as a#1. This was a close second for me. Killer list by the way. I wore out all of those on lp except Motorhead as I never owned it. Maybe I should check it out.

Nice list! I can't argue with any of those choices.

| Van Halen - Van Halen Whitesnake - Lovehunter Black Sabbath - Paranoid Motorhead - Overkill Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak AC/DC - Highway to Hell Deep Purple - Machine Head Kiss - Destroyer Rainbow - Rising Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
Here's my 10, in no particular order as it was hard enough to narrow it down to these. I had to leave off UFO, Scorps, Accept, Saxon, Triumph, etc.
