I really enjoyed listening to The Endless River. If you are a fan of earlier, primarily instrumental albums like Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother or Obscured By Clouds you'll probably enjoy it. If you only like the vocal Pink Floyd tracks you probably won't.
It's closer in sound to the early 70s, despite the basic tracks being recorded in '94. There are lead vocals on 1 song, wordless backing vocals on two others and a short spoken-word segment from Stephen Hawking on another. The rest of the album is instrumental.
The bonus material on the blu-ray is killer, 3 live-in-the-studio jams.
Recording and mastering is excellent, 11db of dynamic range.

I had very little interest before reading this. You sold me.
I was thinking it was going to be a more synth-driven, new-agey type of project. This is much more what I'd appreciate.

The Obscured by Clouds connection has me sold. I'll have to wait until I'm a little more flush with cash to get the blu-ray deluxe edition though.
I still hold out hope that the third solo album material Wright was working on prior to his death got far enough along that we might hear it at some point. That man was one of those singers who could have picked up a phone book for lyrics and I would have been on board. My only disappointment with TER is that there were no Wright lead vocals on it - but if they weren't recorded back when, they can't (and shouldn't) be magicked up now.

Pink Floyd's "Endless River" made the Onion A.V. Club's "Least Essential Albums of 2014" list. Ouch!
Least essential collection of whale sounds from some classic rock legends: Pink Floyd, The Endless River
When the remaining members of Pink Floyd announced earlier this year that they’d be using tracks from 1994’s Division Bell to put together a new record in tribute to the late Richard Wright, the idea seemed sweet enough. They miss their friend, after all. But the resulting record, The Endless River, is mind-bendingly boring and brings the group’s existence to an end with a whale-sized whining whimper rather than the complex bang it deserved.

I don't understand all the hate for this album. I think it's better than The Final Cut!

Been listening to this on Spotify. While I do miss vocal tracks it is a quite enjoyable album. I am going to have to eventually pick this one up.

Songs yes but not whole albums. I think you have a higher music I.Q. then us more simple folk, and I don't mean that in a bad way. My favorite albums by Floyd are the more mainstream albums.

Wow, this thread just went nuts...I was trying to make an edit to my post but instead it deleted it entirely. And then it double-posted the response to it.

Recently was looking on my daughter's bookshelf and saw Animal Farm. So I started reading the book and decided to give Animals a listen. What a great album. I have to say I probably like it more than any other album by Floyd. Often overlooked. I had no idea the pig reappeared in 2011. Very cool!
