| It has long been believed that Pink Floyd broke up for good following the tour in support of 1994′s ‘The Division Bell.’ However, earlier today it was declared that they are working on a new album, with a release date scheduled for the fall. Although there is no official announcement, the news comes via a seemingly reliable source. Polly Samson, who is David Gilmour‘s wife and who contributed lyrics to ‘The Division Bell,’ tweeted the following this morning (July 5). “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called ‘The Endless River.’ Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright‘s swansong and very beautiful.” Wright died in 2008 at the age of 65 after a bout with cancer.

| The shame is that it will probably be a good record but Syd is dead, Rick is dead, Roger won't be involved and Dave Gilmour & Nick Mason isn't enough to justify the name IMHO. They should follow Queen's example and just let it be......Oh wait! | |

I agree. It'll essentially be a Gilmour solo album with Mason playing drum. Although the article does suggest that they'll be using material from The Division Bell sessions, so if it sounds like that album rather than Gilmour's last album then maybe there's case to be made for calling it Pink Floyd.

| They are using some material that Rick Wright recorded, so technically it's David, Nick and Richard. | |

| From what I understand Waters is involved too. I read the same article somewhere else and it was indicated that he would be there too. If it is anything like Division Bell or Momentary Lapse, I'm there. If Waters is involved it's even that much better. | |

| Roger Waters being involved in Floyd again would be great, and yes if they can incorporate some of Rick's stuff as well, I might be hyped about this. | |

Same here, although I really enjoyed Gilmour's last solo album so even if it was his work alone I'd be happy with it, albeit using the Floyd name would seem superfluous. But with the whole band in would be better. Gilmour and Waters are getting close to assisted living status, even if they are in good health, so the more during this next decade the merrier.

| Anything David Gilmour does I will buy in a heartbeat, Roger and Nick (and some of Rick's material) are just icing on the cake!! | |

| I would be surprised if Roger Waters is involved, it seems like material left over from the Division Bell and I am sure some of the tracks probably are some solo Gilmour material that did not get finished for whatever reason.
Whatever the case maybe I am looking forward to hearing, what I am sure will be the last Pink Floyd album

Waters and Gilmour do seem to have patched things up in recent years. There was the Live 8 performance and then Gilmour played at one of the Wall concerts. So it's not impossible that Waters could be involved, but maybe not all that likely.

| I might add that in a recent interviews with Waters interview he said he did the band wrong and never should have sued them. Keeping fingers crossed, either way I can't wait to hear it. | |

| I'd be interested in hearing what they come up with. It also wouldn't surprise me if all three of them (Waters, Gilmour and Mason) buried the hatchet and worked together in some capacity on this, even if it was just on a song or 2. They're all getting too old to live in regret. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| The Pink Floyd Facebook page just posted this.
"Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album "The Endless River" in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the Summer."

Well...I don't know how I feel about that. Underwhelmed for sure. Yup, i read an article and this is decidedly low key. Roger Waters will not be involved and they will not be writing new material, it's just a shelved side project that ran parallel to The Division Bell and the guys think that it deserves to be heard, they will also not be touring with it. I'll still give it a listen.

| Large sections of Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Ummagumma and Obscured By Clouds are instrumental and they are great records. I'm excited to hear unreleased material featuring Wright, he was such an important part of the Pink Floyd sound. | |

You got a point there it adds a little wind back into my sails.

| I wouldn't mind large sections of instrumental work, but an entire album is a different animal. And not nearly as big a deal that everyone is making it. It's actually trending right now. | |

| I am sure David Gilmour was going to release it, as a surprise to fans like David Bowie released his last disc, thankfully Bowie's wife is better at keeping secrets then Gilmour's apparently is. | |

| There are going to be some vocals on it. How much, I don't think anyone knows at this point. | |

Right, what I had read suggests some vocals. Polly Samson is doing some, and I think there will be more as well from what I had read. Actually according to this article, David will do at least some vocals, as well as one of their long time backing vocalists: http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/07/pink-floyd-to-release-new-album-the-endless-river-in-october/

| I'm really torn on this news as I'm a huge Floyd fan.
The mistake here may be in calling it a "new album" when it's really finishing off old recorded stuff from the Division Bell (great album, btw) sessions. I'm stoked to hear more Wright music, but I am a little put off by the laundry list of producers on this if it's just an "instrumental/ambient" album of leftovers from those sessions.
What would have lit me up like Christmas is having Waters involved, tidying up some of the DB session material, and fleshing it out with stuff featuring all three surviving band members. That would be a neat bow to bring the whole thing full circle and just call it a day.

| You have to credit the original session producers and also producers working on the newly recorded segments.
Both of Wright's solo albums are good (Wet Dream, Broken China) and I would predict this material is probably similar in tone. Wet Dream is mostly instrumental as well.

| I've never heard Wet Dream, but I agree about Broken China. It carries more of a Floydian vibe than Gilmour's solo stuff does, I think | |
