You and I are in the minority for loving them all, I suspect. Released Upon the Earth is very, very good and I'd have a hard time arguing with you on this. I probably give Once Dead a slight edge, but not much.

I like them all, but I think Human Sacrifice is easily the best. I definitely prefer Released Upon the Earth to Destruction Comes.

I'm with you guys in liking all of the VR albums. While I consider Once Dead to be their best, these days I listen to Released Upon the Earth much more frequently than any of the others.

I actually prefer Roger's deep death-y vox on RUTE over his more grating (to me) style on the first 3.

I'm cheating a bit as this was originally two albums but as I own the combi dbl album set, I'm including it.

If i was forced to choose then I is the better record but it's a great set.

That's exactly why I mentioned Decrepit Birth, although they are working on a new one, as far as I know. I heard something about them premiering a song live from their upcoming album.

Hadn't Flotsam & Jetsam made Ugly Noise, I would've answered The Cold. That one is a gem. With Ugly Noise they went back to mediocrity.


I would also love to answer something by Hirax as all of their post 2000's releases have been better than their early albums, but as I think Assassins of War is their best record, I can't pick Hirax because they've made other records since then.


Desyre's Glamtron is wayyyyyy better than Warning of the Night, but then again that's their second album so I don't know if it's fair to compare a band with only two albums to bands with tons of records.

I thought Ugly Noise was a solid album, though not their best.

That's about all there is on my list. I can't think of any bands where I have liked their 6 or 7th album best (maybe Priest) or their 20th!

That's a great pick. Probably my favorite from Death's later era, but not overall.

Can't think of any right now. I'd say Aska-Absolute Power, but I never heard their early stuff (highly OOP) but it's better than the two before it.
