Here's a list of oft-forgotten, and usually maligned records from several bands. These often represent a time of turmoil in the band, or a lack of inspiration, or maybe a complete change of direction in sound. Which one of these is your favorite and why?

I've always been fond of Priest's "Ram It Down" but it rarely gets any love from other fans.
I think it simply slipped thru the cracks since its release was sandwiched between an album that most think was Priest's worst (Turbo) and one that many consider their best (Painkiller).

My favorite from this list is Priest's Ram It Down. It's forgotten because it's wedged between the glam drenched, synthoid love of Turbo and the triumphant metallic mastery of Painkiller. There are a couple tracks on here that are good such as Hard As Iron, Blood Red Skies and Come and Get It. I listened to this tape over and over in 1988. I also think I am the only person on earth that likes their cover of Johnny B. Goode. Painkiller completely wiped it from memory a couple of years later and the band rarely plays anything from it anymore.

I certainly enjoyed Ram it Down much more than Turbo. In fact Ram it Down would be up there with Defenders if it weren't for the synthesized drums. And Johnny B Goode.
But I chose WFO. The production sucks but the songwriting is top notch, and the band went full throttle back to their roots.

Solid Ball of Rock is a nice return to form by Saxon.

Rock In A Hard Place sounds just as good as any Aerosmith album before it and better than a lot of the reunion albums after it!

First half of Ram It Down is great, but then songs start to have major dips in quality. Went with Vanity/Nemesis. I recall it being a good listen, only thing is I don't remember any track from it. Usually I'm all for bands making weird/stylistically different albums, as long as they do it by own will.

Black Sabbath - Forbidden. I really enjoy that album a lot.

Went with Aerosmith 'cause I love that record. Could have gone with Celtic Frost as well. It's probably the most listened to Frost album in my collection.

The ones I have:
Iron Maiden - No Prayer For The Dying: Awful, boring and uninspired. Iron Maiden's worst album. Motorhead - March Or Die: One of their weaker ones, still pretty good. Judas Priest - Ram It Down: Plenty of filler with a few amazing tracks thrown in, my vote. Kiss - Hot In The Shade: 1 okay song followed by like 15 awful ones. "Forever" makes me want to puke. Black Sabbath - Forbidden: Total uninspired crap. Dio - Angry Machines: Bad songwritting, terrible sound, poor attempt at sounding modern. AC/DC - Blow Up Your Video: Probably their worst, still has a few nice songs.

I went with Vanity/Nemesis. It's my second least favorite Frost record but it's Tom and there is always something there with him (even Cold Lake)

Probably Black Sabbath's Forbidden. I always thought it was pretty good stuff. Never understood the hate.

I voted for Overkill - W.F.O.; that's actually one of my favorite Overkill albums.

Aerosmith's Rock In a Hard Place- because despite its reputation its a pretty damn good album, Jimmy Crespo was definitely a heavy metal guitarist, the songs kicked ass and the album was so drug drenched that just putting the needle on the turntable was enough to get you a contact buzz

I don't have many of those so I won't vote. However, I think the one that gets the most overlooked is WFO. I really never hear any Overkill fans talk about that one.

My vote is for Ram It Down, a fantastic and criminally underrated album, the title track alone is easily one Priest's best songs of all time.
No Prayer For The Dying-pretty decent album overall, like Tailgunner and Assassin.
Kiss-Hot In The Shade, OK album, not as good as Crazy Nights, but I slightly prefer it over Revenge.
AC/DC-Blow Up Your Video, pretty good album, wouldn't call it their worst.
Motorhead-March Or Die, decent overall, I prefer it over 1916.
Dio-Angry Machines, not his finest hour, but still has some good songs.
Black Sabbath-Forbidden, pretty underrated, I prefer it over the likes of Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die.
Accept-Death Row(wouldn't Eat The Heat be a better example?)- good solid Accept, no more no less.
Aerosmith-Rock In A Hard Place, rather meh album, mostly forgettable with a few decent songs spread out.
Solid Ball Of Rock-Pretty good overall, love "Can't Get Enough", "I'm On Fire" and the title track.

Nowhere did I say these were the band's worst albums. I said these were forgotten albums.

I would think Forever Free and Dogs of War are waaaayyyy more "forgotten" than Solid Ball of Rock. Just my 3 cents on that.
