It's worse when they get their hands stuck in the strap, 8 seconds becomes a minute. Let's also not forget the rodeo clowns. I normally hate clowns, but those guys are pretty damn tough too.
I've seen those clowns get plowed under every once in a while too. I hope they pay those dudes well.

I don't think sports are very metal at all. I guess if I had to pick the "least metal sport" I'd say American football, because it seems so um... I don't want to say anything that will get reported... but men tackling each other and smacking each other's butts just doesn't seem very metal.
I'm a race fan though, and I think motorsports should be an option, too. Even though I wouldn't pick that either. haha

I'm sorry, but when THIS is considered metal:
your inference on football may not be a valid disqualifier.

I'm sorry; I meant in my opinion. Of course I don't expect anyone to agree! haha Oh, and I've given up on making sense. I make less sense when I try.

Your post doesn't make much sense, because Judas Priest IS metal.
Football and hockey can both be equally metal, just different kinds of metal. Hockey is something like technical thrash metal, with furious speed, blood and nimble fingers. Football is more crushing heavy in a traditional way, but slower paced because it's more methodical and tactical. Also more PC and avoids being too edgy (bare knuckle fights). Football is classic heavy metal.

Real football. The one played by the entire planet. by this I mean soccer.
Soccer is more latino pop than heavy metal. Ricky Martin, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias... if Cristiano Ronaldo ever made a record that'd be the style.
Race cars are less live instruments and more mechanized and computerized. I picture it being something like very fast techno. I guess Nascar has a lot of wrecks and fire so it could be like industrial music, too. But that doesn't quite capture the speed, imo. Techno is closer.

Agreed. It's about time people started calling it by its real name too, handegg
I'd have voted rugby if that was a choice. I went with "real" football (NFL) instead; not that pansy sport where people run up and down a field for hours only to have the score end in a 0-0 tie; that's about as exciting as watching grass grow. Not saying soccer players aren't great athletes because they have to be to do all that running around. I'm saying the game itself sucks.

In other words, the only excitement comes from when the South American fans riot.

Pretty much. I'd actually rather watch golf than soccer and for me, that's saying something.
And you non-US members can slam me all you want but I'm convinced that as long as your sport deems a 0-0 tie as an acceptable ending it will never catch on as a major pro sport in the US.

And I think baseball would be the equivalent of technical, prog-metal...a thinking metalhead's sport.
I'd be inclined to go with cricket as that's more epic that baseball - test matches can last up to five days (and sometimes there still isn't a result at the end of that ).

Cricket is classical music. Long-winded and far too civilized to be considered metal.

How'bout professional bull riding? Whenever ESPN shows a reel of "highlights" from those competitions, with cowboys getting wiped out/wrecked/mangled all over the place, it's practically begging for a primo Slayer soundtrack to accompany it!
Pinching an animals' nutsack to the point of bursting is about as UN-METAL as anything I can think of. Not to mention the stereotypical redneck aspect.

Basketball would be hair metal, really over the top and fast-paced (i guess the free throws would be the equivalent of power ballads).

Hey Sax, I know you hate Texas and most anything associated with it, but do some research before you criticize something. The rope around the testicles is an urban myth and bull riding is associated more with cowboys than rednecks (of course you might not distinguish between the two, you do tend to be a bit biased).

Sorry, my joke was in response to the above making football unmetal for (I assumed the inference) being kind of homoerotic. Hence, the Priest reference.
I mean, when leather daddy is an acceptable metal look (hey, I ain't arguing with it), men tackling each other and playing grab ass really can't be disqualified. Just sayin'.
I'll go back to lurking in this topic because my humor engines are not working properly this week...
