Discussed before, but maybe not with this crop.
Any metal rub ya the wrong way "spiritually" speaking?

Not particularly...I tend to laugh off "GRRR! Rah-rah-Satan!" and "YAY! Rah-rah Jesus!" style lyrics equally.
P.S. Love that photo.

Sometimes I listen to my Stryper, then follow it up with some Venom.

The only time I can recall being "offended" was the time I bought the album by Dope and they did a cover of NWA's 'F**k Tha police'. My late father-in-law was a cop and I have a few friends that are in law enforcement, so that track hit a nerve.
In hindsight, I should have known better than to buy an album from a band called Dope in the first place.

Lyrics irritate me only when they are SO repetitieve and dumb I can wholly understand their (lack of) meaning. Ususally it is either Manowar or some overly praising christian bands. Most of the time I'm able to understand words but not capture the whole image. For instance, Recon's Holy is the Lord is waaay to much for me, not because the message, but for lyrics being annoying.

I think pop music offends me so much more.Odes to lesbianism (I just kissed a Girl) or feminism (Scrub-TLC) drive me up a wall.

I'm surprised she managed to avoid one-hit-wonder status and has carved out quite a career for herself. Probably the boobs though.

^^ I recently saw a trailer online for a Katy Perry porn parody called "Katy Pervy," starring a fairly convincing, blue haired look alike... if you've achieved the level of fame where you've earned your own porn parody, it's safe to say you've "made it."

I prefer to avoid bands with obviously evil lyrics.
Anyways such cds are prohibited here and you can get jailed for owning them.
Years ago the authorities established a black list. Among the names included therein were slayer, kreator, venom and black metal in general (although I see burzum cds around all the time!).

I enjoy both the "white" and "black" perspective on things. Especially when it is offered as something that gives me pause for thought. When it is done in an intelligent manner. The more obvious and goofy stuff I usually just see as all in good fun.

I never really gave much thought to lyrics, offensive or otherwise. And I can't read the title of this thread without thinking of this :

As a christian, I don't particularly care for the more overtly Satanic side of metal. Studying religion and philosophy is one of my hobbies, and usually I can find some common ground with people of other faiths like buddhism, judaism, islam, rastafarians, etc. as they all have some similar moral teachings even though I do not profess their views of God, Jesus, or whatnot.
However, Satanism, both in its theistic and LaVeyan incarnations, is quite far removed from that. I appreciate them taking a stance of going against the majority by not taking a sugarcoated view of life, and that they agree there is a 'Satanic' side of man (even though they interpret it and live it very differently from us), but their 'moral' beliefs are at the bottom of the bunch in my opinion. Plus, it seems mostly rock and metal musicians make up the majority of 'serious' Satanic adherents. Not everything against the mainstream is wrong, but in this case I believe there is a reason that LaVeyan Satanism is not mainstream. LaVey called his version of Satanism 'the world's most powerful religion' and I would agree with it but not in the good sense. More like Pol Pot powerful than Ghandi or Martin Luther King powerful.

There aren't any bands that spring to mind for spiritually rubbing me the wrong way. The closest I can honestly come up with I feel a little stupid about because I KNOW it's supposed to be over the top stupid stuff, but Gwar references pedophilia a little too much and a little too comfortably for me to listen to most of their stuff casually. I can laugh at "Have You Seen Me?" but it's always got an edge of discomfort to it.
On the spiritual side, I find a genuinely satanic band less annoying or offensive than all of the bands running around who seem to be doing it for the shtick. I mean, when Gene Simmons puts on greasepaint and becomes "the demon," that's theater. When some dudes with long hair pose with goat heads or inverted stars or whatever because they saw that it got another band a lot of attention and they push this without any apparent philosophical or moral adherence (if that's possible with satanism, anyway) as a way to gain publicity... Well, it just comes off crass and manipulative, but I'd have the same problem with a band that pushed a Christian angle for the Youtube hits or whatever. It's one thing to have a gimmick, but some gimmicks are in worse taste than others.

Oh, just noticed this... Is it just me, or is the "God Hates Metal" guy's poster on the right (Metal SIN) not begging to be made into an album cover?
Anyone got an in with Priest? I think we found the title for their next release.
