Yeah I was taken for a loop for that first \"thebandthatshallneverbementionedagain\" single. I felt like I was listening in on someone's nightmare. But that was it. The only \"thebandthatshallneverbementionedagain\" I can take is the debut, and I really like it. Following albums didn't do it for me. Can't explain why, but then again I'm just not a fan of overly detuned gutter music anyway.
EDIT: sigh...
Life is Peachy was soo blah.. Good God was one of the few I really liked off of that album.. After that it was just one song here or there that I really enjoyed.. I think Take a look in the Mirror was the closest thing to the debut and I really enjoy that album.
Wonder what the band was thinking detuning so low? Was it to sound different or to fit Jon's style?

First full-length album, but I count the self-titled EP as their first (and by far best) release.

Thanks. Revising my list because, if they released an EP before OOTC, then it's not really their debut. Chose Veruca Salt's debut because I doubt they'll be included on another list in this thread.

Or perhaps you want the Stones version...

Yeah of course, but I would be willing to bet Ratt was directly referencing the Aerosmith version.
I listened to that Ratt EP on youtube last night, I would say for probably the first time in 25 years. Not as good as I remembered, but still a decent enough effort. Every song goes on for at least a minute too long inevitably ending with them repeating the chorus ad nauseum (by the time You Think You're Tough ended I wanted to start breaking things). Sweet Cheater and Tell The World are the highlights, the latter song sounding like it could fit on an early 80s Judas Priest album.

No doubt. I looked it up and there at least 20 groups that have covered that song at some point in their career.

Boston is a good pick. Don't know why I didn't think of that one.

I'm new to the forum but I haven't noticed Tora Tora being mentioned much as opposed to other bands of their genre... I thought they were a pretty exceptional band.
