Let's see if I get out of the 1970s with this list (doubtful)....
1. Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? (no other debut comes even remotely close in importance) (1967) 2. King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King (1969) 3. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin (1969) 4. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970) 5. Crosby, Stills & Nash - (1969) 6. The Doors - The Doors (1968) 7. Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill (1972) 8. Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame (1971) 9. Uriah Heep - Very 'eavy, Very 'umble (1970) 10. Bill Withers - Just As I Am (1971)
Nope...didn't make it past 1972...

Black Sabbath Killing is My Business Seven Churches Scream Bloody Gore Never Mind The Bollocks Iron Maiden The Distillers Souvenirs d'un autre monde Morbid Tales The Circle & the Blue Door
The list would be different on another day but I've only included albums that I think showed the band at or near to the top of their game (I love Kill em All, but RTL & MOP are much better)

Sortilège - Metamorphose Queensrÿche - The Warning Protest the Hero - Kezia Marillion - Script for a Jester's Tear Titan Force - Titan Force Sanctuary - Refuge Denied

Yeah, I guess I didn't think of that as a debut album because of the EP. But obviously it should count, and thus it should've been in my top ten.

This is harder than I thought it would be... I had 47 that I wrote down
1. Metallica "Kill 'Em All" (Just a seminal record for that movement) 2. Death Angel "The Ultra-Violence" (Teenagers....) 3. RATT "Out of the Cellar" (Easy selection, due to the fact that their albums got appreciably worse...) 4. Motley Crue "Too Fast For Love" (Ditto with RATT) 5. Guns 'n Roses "Appetite For Destruction" (Really their only album I get into) 6. Aerosmith "Aerosmith" (Chock full of good songs) 7. The Outfield "Play Deep" (This album immediately transports me back to '85...ah nostalgia) 8. Keane "Hopes & Fears" (These guys are one of the few pop bands that get me excited these days) 9. KISS "KISS" (Seems to always be forgotten about) 10. John Waite "Ignition" (That perfect middle ground between The Baby's & what was to come)

Actually very cool list, interesting you have K orn in there, I like K orn, not one of my favorites, but an excellent debut, and one cannot deny their impact

Ty That album blew my mind when I first heard it.. I mean... The build up of Blind until he says "ARE YOU READY" WOW!!! Then songs like Ball Tongue where he spits out those crazy verses and man are those lyrics SICK!!
The album is not only brutal but it was perfect and made a HUGE impact in the metal world...
Mr Davis still to this day has some of the most brutally honest lyrics ever and is one of the best frontmans Ive seen live...

Yeah I was taken for a loop for that first \"thebandthatshallneverbementionedagain\" single. I felt like I was listening in on someone's nightmare. But that was it. The only \"thebandthatshallneverbementionedagain\" I can take is the debut, and I really like it. Following albums didn't do it for me. Can't explain why, but then again I'm just not a fan of overly detuned gutter music anyway.
EDIT: sigh...

BTW Rob, good call on Pearl Jam. That was a force to be reckoned with when it came out. Sure was embarrassing to go around singing Alive with a smile on my face only to find out a year later what the song was really about.
