| What do you guys rank as some of the worst metal debut albums of all time? Sometimes the early albums are the best, but other times the band actually grows later on. | |

| During the album song polls in this forum, I didn't care for Saxon's debut. | |

| Probably by some garage band that was never allowed to record a follow-up. | |

| There are certainly some debut's that were very different from what the band eventually became known for Motorhead, Priest, Deep Purple, Accept, Scorpions, UFO, Status Quo etc... But I don't think any of those records are bad, just different. And then there were bands like Dark Angel and to a lesser extent Slayer where they hadn't quite got their sound yet.
For truly awful debuts you probably do have to look at bands that never got the chance to record a second album like Killen etc..

| You could argue that the first album by the Alice Cooper band was pretty unremarkable acid rock. Then, so too was the second. They didn't really hit their stride until album 3. | |

They definitely hadn't hit their classic sound yet, but Pretties For You and Easy Action are excellent slabs of psych rock, to my ears. But I love the Coop and I love late 60s psych rock...so. Also, I believe the OP is kinda asking what good bands had bad debuts, right? Not crappy debuts by crappy bands that never went anywhere, and not bands with different sounding debuts then their classic sound, in which case all listed would count: Priest, Coop, Accept, Motorhead (though their debut is probably their best, in my opinion). If it's good bands with crappy debuts, the best example I can think of as far as my personal opinion goes: Sepultura. I think Morbid Visions is terrible. I don't even care much for Schizophrenia. But Beneath the Remains, Arise (especially Arise!) and Chaos AD are some of my favorite metal releases.
