| To raise the lelevel of metalness of the forum, following information deserves a personal thread. Warriors of Odin are going to re-record Kings of Metal for its anniversary in 2014, just as they did with Battle Hymns. Personally I was okay with the latter, as it was imo a very mediocre record, so the improving of sound did nothing wrong, but again I was never a fan of it in the first place. I don't care for KOM either, as there are only two and a half albums from Manowar I can listen through, and KOM isn't one of them. I like Gods of War the most. Though that must be interesting to some. Hell, every Manowar thread makes sense. - blabbermouth wrote:
- In celebration of the 25th anniversary of MANOWAR's "Kings Of Metal" album, which the band calls "a milestone in metal history," the group is currently in the studio recording a brand new special version of the LP: "Kings Of Metal 2014". The new rendition will "honor the original as its inspiration, but with additional energy, fully utilizing the power of today's technology and 25 years of experience," says MANOWAR bassist Joey DeMaio. "It will contain new arrangements and changes that incorporate live performance elements added over the years. The album will feature additional bonus material and many other surprises."
The new recording is only one component of the "Kings Of Metal 2014" anniversary celebration.
For this special occasion, MANOWAR will also open their vaults and reveal never-before-seen video footage, photos, behind-the-scene interviews and insight into the history of MANOWAR and the "Kings Of Metal" era.
For the new narration on "The Warrior's Prayer", the band will be joined by celebrated British actor Brian Blessed ("Henry V", "Macbeth"). Blessed is a renowned Shakespeare and character actor who has starred, among others, in Kenneth Brannagh's "Henry V" and "Much Ado About Nothing", in "King Lear" and Oliver Stone's "Alexander". Brian also has an affinity with heavy metal music. In June, he received the "Spirit Of Hammer" award at Metal Hammer U.K.'s Golden Gods Awards.
The new recordings will also feature guitarist Karl Logan's and drummer Donnie Hamzik's contributions, who, after having played these classic hymns many times live, will now have the opportunity to add to their legacy by including their own signature sound and performance.
The release of "Kings Of Metal 2014" is scheduled for the end of this year.
2014 will then see MANOWAR's anniversary tour, performing the full "Kings Of Metal 2014" album along with their other metal hymns in a completely new stage production.
"Kings Of Metal" was first released on November 18, 1988. Already a significant force with international success since their debut album "Battle Hymns", this release and the following 1989 "Kings Of Metal" world tour catapulted MANOWAR to a new sphere. Songs like "Heart Of Steel", "Kings Of Metal", "Hail And Kill" and "Blood Of The Kings" became instant anthems and remain among the most demanded songs in concerts, celebrated not only by MANOWAR fans.

| They looked and sounded stupid when they were young (ish) guys in the Eighties. I'd hate to see what a bunch of old guys doing that schtick in 2014 looks like! So I won't | |

Translation: The record company wants too much money for the rights to the original recording, so Manowar is re-recording it in hopes of being able to make a few more bucks in royalties from songs they wrote 25 years ago. |

I heard that Johnson & Johnson Baby Oil was putting up the money for the new recording......

That's what I was thinking. Arcade did something similar with a live album. Didn't Stryper and T&N try to achieve the same effect?

| I've always been on the fence with Manowar. The first two albums didn't really do a lot for me, but they got a little better with each album after. But what kills it is that OTT...well, you know. | |

The major labels want more money to license the recordings for reissues than the band could ever hope to make from the reissue, so they are stuck either raising a fortune to purchase their masters from the label (which very few can afford) or re-record new versions. This is becoming common when licensing songs for movies as well, it is often cheaper for the filmmaker to hire the band to re-record the song they want to use instead of trying to get the licensing from the label to use the original version. |

| Every Manowar thread on the Internet makes me laugh. Inevitably it always devolves into Manowar getting trashed for dressing up like cavemen by a bunch of guys who worship at the altar of a bunch of bands with dudes who dressed up like girls. | |

Can't say I'm a fan of either look, but I do enjoy Manowar's music more than a good number of glam bands.

Let's be honest now. Most of the bands that dressed up like girls did it because, as difficult as it was for us to understand, girls dug it, and dug them. I'm not sure who this look is designed to appeal to?

| Manowar made really good music up to about Warriors Of The World. Their look (and the glam bands look) never affected my enjoyment of the band. I just go by the music. | |
