Not sure what to make of this. Kind of has a Song Remains the Same vibe with the narrative bits thrown in. Wanting to know what you guys think.

If I was still even the slightest bit interested in Metallica it's something I would probably watch at home eventually...but I'm not, so I won't.

Is it a movie, a concert or both?

I'll always give another Metallica record a spin, just for old times sake but I couldn't care less about this. It's just them trying to stay current by using a new gimmick.
I'll probably see Mission To Lars before I see this.

I will watch it eventually since I am still a fan, but I would have preferred another straight concert film, instead of some goofy storyline

I'd be more interested if it were a better band. No, that's a lie. This idea is terrible on all grounds.

People have been telling Metallica that they're "this generation's Led Zeppelin" for years, so I guess it was inevitable that they'd make their own "Song Remains the Same."
Seems goofy to me. I'll pass.

Still a fan Of Metallica but these types of things (bonus dvds with cds,the old home video releases etc) no longer intereset me in the slightest so I won't bother to catch it.

Some of my favorite comic releif is watching Lars play and I know that is't even the slightest intention on his part.

I'm pretty much there with you all. I have no idea if it's a film narrative with a concert tied into it, but they really could have stuck with the concert.

It's basically the same thing as The Song Remains The Same. A concert film with some narrative sequences here and there. The only difference is that it was filmed for IMAX 3D and the stage setup was specifically designed for the film.
The concert footage is compiled from 3 different shows. They weren't complete concerts, they would play a song, then have to stop and prepare different stage special effects setups, then they'd start again. Some songs were performed in multiple takes to accommodate different camera positions, etc. Each "show" was 4 hours, though half that time the audience was standing around waiting for the next take.

We could of gotten a doc about the making of LuLu and Lars would of been heard copping to his youthful artistic endeavors of reenacting the verses of "Take A Walk On The Wildside" with his middle school friends.

So did no one see this?
I enjoyed it quite a bit. At least the concert bit. The movie aspect was pure bogus.

I noticed that this is currently available on Netflix streaming so I added it to my "list" of stuff to watch, just haven't gotten round to it yet.

Yes, I started watching it the other day. The movie bits just don't work well at all, but the concert is alright. The mix is very disappointing though with the guitars pushed back (and daaaamn are they detuning these days).
The look of the film is really good though.

I saw it on blu-ray, it was OK, not great..... The "movie" scenes were just OK, concert footage was cool... but it was sort of like watching Iron Maiden bring out Big Eddie with pyro for every single song - would have been very cool, but in the end too much Eddie.

Watched it on Netflix a couple of weeks ago. The movie scenes are dumb. Also, no one wants to see a paunchy James Hetfield wearing a patch vest with no shirt. Get it together man.
The stage setup was insane - did they actually tour with that monstrosity? I will say they did the same stupid "accident/man on fire" deal when I last saw them back on the Load tour.

Finally watched this via Netflix on this rainy afternoon. It was .... meh. The concert performance was cool, the "narrative" stuff with the roadie going on an adventure into the big city got silly really quick.

I finally got around to watching this over the weekend. I had it on in the background while I did work around the house, so I was more listening to it than watching, but what I saw was cool though. The wife & kids were down the shore, so I could play it nice & loud!!
I didn't mind the narrative stuff. It was shot well and they seemed to put allot of thought (and money) into it. It's definitely something that a band would do that has more money than they know what to do with (ie 'Song Remains the Same')
It's not something I'd re-watch, but once through on Netflix was alright. The part I liked best was at the very end when the band is jamming to 'Orion' onstage by themselves as the credits rolled.
