I meant to add - this is a great doc, but its gets torn off ytube so fast - so watch it as quick as you can.
If anybody has a link to SAXON'S 'Heavy Metal Thunder' doc, I'd appreciate it. I have scoured Ytube and every online stream for it - NOTHING.

You could support Rat and buy it . A website you can get it from that usually carries it and ya don't have to worry about the "legal owners" takin it down or off is Amazo.com
Here is a link for a new copy for $8.41 http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Rat%20Skates%20born%20in%20the%20basement%20dvd
Netflix carries that title as well. Maybe they have similar options available in Ireland ?

Thanx, man - yeah we have everything u guys have in the States. Just can't afford it. We are in the midst of the biggest recession in our history. The rich are still getting richer after selling our asses to the Germans. Germany basically owns Ireland now. The cut backs here are insane - crime is going through the roof. We lost 50% of our police force as the Germans requested in the bailout. Our healthcare is third world now, and sadly gone as bad as the USA - insomuch as, u ain't got the dollar, don't get sick as u basically die if you do. Only in this country as opposed to the States, the rich use our public hospitals for private healthcare, and the average Joe gets bumped down the list to make way for somebody with private healthcare. We have cancer patients waiting years to be seen - and work that one out - they die.
Its quite awful to live in this country without money now. We were quite an advanced Western country up to 2008, but all our college young (brain drain) are leaving to work in Canada, States, Oz etc. Its quite tragic really. I was talking to a young girl in the local shop last week, she's only 22, and has to leave to get work away from her family. She doesn't want to go, but its like that for hundreds of thousands of kids here now. Ireland was a great little island, and the Americans always love their stay here. We had your president over for a visit the year before last and he had a great time. He said some very kind words about my friend Gerry Cor, who wrote a song about Obama. Its a terrible song, but your commander and chief got a kick out of it, and complimented my mate live on television.

I think it's a good documentary, but you would think that Rat was the only person that ever did anything in Overkill. Of course, it's his documentary, so what else would he say. Also, his segments seem very rehearsed (which they were) and not natural enough, but that's a minor complaint.
That being said, it's still a good look at the early days of the band and it appears that Rat documented and saved almost everything from that time. I had never noticed that the "O" in Overkill was the same "O" as in Iron Maiden. Cool!

He's a nice character, but he's very soft, and left a lot out of the documentary.
Like, why quit the band after all that hard work? Ok, I read he said he was burned out, but that is the nature of the beast - it is a hard slog. To go through all that work, a bright & creative individual, to quit as Overkill start to take off. Then to say he thought they'd look after him after he left? A bit naive that.
I think Rat is a bit too gentle for this game - I must post the EXODUS tour documentary, which is in parts absolutely side splitting - they don't take themselves seriously at all, and seem a great bunch of lads. But God almighty, its a tough trek those tours. A tiny little tour bus full of lads hoofing all over the States, to South America and back, and I'm betting not too much dime for all that work. You really need to be dedicated to your music for that life.
I don't think Rat's had the stomach for it. He seems to have come from a nice gentle background and when the going got tough Rat's got going. I'll put the Exodus documentary up - it really shows how hard this business is unless you are Metallica or Megedeth, or one of the BIG names.
What's he up to now? That doc was from 2007.

I had a similar reaction. There were a couple of times where I thought to myself, "Careful with that ego there, Rat boy." I swear, Rat seems to think that his face belongs up on the Mount Rushmore of Thrash Metal right next to Hetfield, Tom Araya, and Scott Ian.
When I loaned "Born in the Basement" to my brother he said "It's a good video but geez, someone needs to tell that guy he was only a member of Overkill, not the Rolling F**kin' Stones."

My wife said that exact same thing. She's a good bit older than me, but is a cool chick, she listens to all the metal I put on and gives her opinion, she converted to Metallica a few years back, probably to piss me off, as I'm no fan theirs, but she's seen the Stones in the 60's and the Beetles, and has a good ear - and she loves the metal documentaries - gets a real kick out them. She said that to me: Who is Rat Skates? He is talking away like he invented thrash metal. This is her words near enough: "Like, I know Araya, and Mustaine and Hettfield - but who is this guy? When did he invent thrash metal?" It was very funny, as I was as dumbfounded as she was. And could only say, well, what you see is what you get.
God love Rat's - he is a likeable - but not the Gene Simmons he thinks he is.
