I know its not most of you guys' cup of tea but I wanted to share a awesome experience I had and one of the funnest nights ive had with my brother in ages
Friday, September 28th I went and saw Sixpence None the Richer at the Wolf’s Den at Mohegan Sun Casino. Anybody who knows anything about the Wolf’s Den knows that shows there are free. I had good seats we got there about an hour before the show started and we were very close to the stage. Front row. We had to share the table but it wasn’t overcrowded so that was a plus. The show started with and I am not completely certain about this but having researched a few of their recent setlists seems to be the same songs they do but just different order. I degress they opened with what I believe was a Leonard Cohen cover called “Famous Blue Raincoat” to me it seemed like it was a minimal song. I don’t mean that in a negative way the band came out started to play it and then Leigh Nash , the singer for Sixpence None the Richer came out and started to sing. She interacted with the crowd pretty well and all in all the band looked like they were having a good time on stage together. They mixed it up well with songs from their new release “Lost in Transition” and older material. From the new album they played “Be Ok”, “Radio”, “Saftey Line” , “Sooner Than Later”, and “When You Call Me” they also played older material such as “One Thousand Parachutes” and “Tension is a Passing Chord” near the end of the set they played their well known hits “There She Goes” and of course “Kiss Me” the bass player Justin Cray’s family was in the audience and it was his parent’s anniversary so Leigh dedicated “Kiss Me” to them. The band did come out for an encore and did one more song “Love” and afterwards most of the band minus Guitarist Matt Slocum came out for a meet and greet. I was in line behind a drummer who I spoke with as the line moved. I wanted to get a copy of the new CD and boxes of the new album did not come up until I was near the front of the line. When it got to me, Leigh had to step away for a few minutes to greet other fans as they were in wheelchairs, the Mgr or the venue or a rep from the Wolf’s Den not sure who this person was kept on apologizing I didn’t mind. I was patient. So I got to meet Leigh Nash we talked about TN weather and told her that I thought the band played very well and she offered to forge the guitarist’s autograph on my CD she wasn’t serious but it was funny. So I got ¾ of the band to sign my CD and I ended up talking to Justin Cray, the Bass player for a bit. I asked him if he was from around here being that his family was here tonight and he said no but that he was from Albany which is about a 5 to 6 hour drive from here. His Aunt and Uncle though lived in Connecticut. Which I thought was cool. He asked me if I thought the band did good tonight and I told him yeah and then he asked me the whole band or just him which prompted a chuckle from me. I told him the band did good tonight. I told him I hope I get to see the band play again here in the future and he thanked me for coming out and I thanked him for taking the time to talk to me. It was very cool experience.
While all this was going on my brother had left the Wolf’s Den waiting patiently for me. Ive always liked Sixpence but after seeing them live I like them even more and appreciate the time they took to interact with the fans. The set was very good. Very solid. The only song they did not do that I wish they did was a song called “Angeltread” from one of their older releases. Its one of my favorite albums and I really cannot wait to see them live again whenever that will be. A very good band to see live and age appropriate in my opinon. They get an A+ from me.
