| Rumor has it that the first trailer for the new "RoboCop" will be released today during the San Diego Comic-Con festivities..after which I'm sure, it'll be all over YouTube...I hate to admit it, but I'm morbidly curious. On a somewhat related note, RoboCop's real-life home town of Detroit filed for bankruptcy yesterday. Omni Consumer Products should be swooping in soon to "Take the city private" and finally get started on that long-delayed Delta City project. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Except that the original Robocop was filmed entirely in Dallas, Texas. |

| I was actually really looking forward to this when Darren Aronofsky was involved. i think that the original was a great idea done badly and I really hoped that it would be better. Then came 3D and all of the nonsense, it appears as though it will be absolute rubbish, which is a shame. | |

As in I don't see that working out at all. Like when David Lynch was going to direct Jedi. If independent film giant Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) can turn around and direct a hugely successful James Bond film (Skyfall, over 1 billion in box office) then I don't see why Aronofsky couldn't. |

True. Dallas' skyline at the time looked more "high tech" than the real Detroit's did. - Quote :

Aronofsky was one of the candidates to take over the Batman franchise years ago, too... before Christoper Nolan came into the picture. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I'm talking about styles. Mendes is faaar less esoteric and surreal than Aronofsky. And sure Aronofsky could do it--but he'd have to forsake a good amount of his trademark or turn the franchise into something entirely different. He's not one for cohesive narrative (although I've heard different about The Wrestler which I have not seen).
I also wonder if the tongue-in-cheek comic-book identity of the original film will be discarded like they did with Total Recall. That's really what made the movie. Perhaps that's why I can't see Aronofsky handling it too well.

Perhaps that's why I can't see Aronofsky handling it too well. I get where you are coming from, but this is where I'm a bit odd and very naive in terms of the film industry. I don't really care about 'turning round the franchise' in fact I would ban the words 'franchise', 'reboot' and all of the other words that mean play it safe and throw out stuff that will appeal to people who love loud bangs! I just want someone with talent to take a script and make a great movie from it. Robocop is a great story, even more relevant to today's world than it was in the 80's, the tongue in cheek comic book version has been done, I was looking for something different. i think that Aronofsky makes visually stunning movies and I think that he would make good use of a big budget. I would hope that he isn't even capable of putting out turgid boring drivel like the Total Recall mess. If you haven't seen 'The Wrestler' go watch it, right now! I have never seen an audience reaction at the end of a movie quite like that one, instead of shuffling out, discussing the film, the entire audience stayed in their seats, pretty much in silence as though they were trying to recover from the emotional rollercoaster of the final scene (I know that's how I felt) Really looking forward to Noah too.

| No sign of any RoboCop sneak peeks from Comic Con... geez, if they didn't even wanna bother to try pimping it to that crowd, the studio must know they have a dud on their hands. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Weeeeeeeeeak. If they made an R-Rated film it would most likely bomb the same way Dredd did last year. PG-13 guarantees them a lot more money. |

Oh, it makes sense from a business perspective. It just sucks. But really, why should we care if a movie is being remade differently? We still have the original to go back to. I never wanted a remake of Robocop; it's a great movie. In fact, did anyone want a remake of Robocop?? Anyway, I'd rather just pretend it's not going to happen.

In the end it doesn't really matter. If you are old enough to have seen the original Robocop in the theater you are OLDER than the target audience they are going for with the new one. They want people under the age of 25, primarily teenage boys to plunk down their parents money for the remake. |

And the Wolfman remake (which I thought was awesome). I think this Robocop will be terrible but I'd still watch it when it comes out on rental.I wouldn't waste my money on a theater trip.

| Why complain that the new version differs from the original? Everyone whines about remakes, then they whine when this happens. Makes no sense.
I'd rather have a remake with something of its own identity than a straight copy. It's like everyone bitching about the Under the Dome TV series being so different from the book. Why? If the TV series entertaining? If so, f*cking enjoy it! Jeez.
