Do you hoard things besides music?

My wife has been watching a show about hoarders recently.

Some of these people have just piles and piles of trash. Other people have what is essentially a collection of insane collections, that fill their houses to the point they are near un-live-able. 5,000 LPs on top of 5,000 CDs on top of a million magazines on top of VHS tapes on top of 8 tracks on top of 12 stereos on top of boxes and boxes of photos of Elvis. And on.

This could never happen to me, as I save hardly anything. I buy music, and we have a relatively large movie collection. But things like magazines, once I'm done they go in the recycling bin. I prefer books on my Kindle now. And so on.

So I was just curious...do your collecting habits extend to...everything? Are you willing and able to part with things that you don't use any more, or do you need to keep them for the sake of collecting?

The people on these shows are extreme cases, of course.

I would not say "hoard", but I also try to collect:

- magazines w/ The Beatles or a former Beatle on the cover
- magazines w/ U2 on the cover
- Batman graphic novels
- select other Batman trinkets

I used to collect books, but lately I read them and get rid of them.

Same with magazines with the expection of Classic Rock Magazine, read them and then recycle them.

When I replace a vinyl, cassesste, VHS with CD or DVD I get rid or giveaway the original

I have a ton of MacFarlane rock action figures I am in the process of trying to get rid of theu Craigslist.

So I only collect CD's, which is close to 3000 thousand, and I still buy them.

I have lots of movies but in away its waste because I rarely watch them more then once, but people give them to us, but I may start purging that also.


I do collect concert DVD's and I have quite a number of thoses

I still have a stash of old rock/metal magazines in the closet but I rarely buy mags anymore so that collection hasn't been added to in a long time.

I'll buy movies on DVD if they're cheap enough but generally even then I only keep ones I really like, most stuff is a "one spin and gone" deal, I will either yard-sale them or donate them to the local library when I'm done with 'em.

I've moved too many times in my adult life to hoard anything. I like to keep possessions down to 1 room that's easy to move.

Moving around in my 20s is definitely what led me to streamlining what I felt I needed to keep. I used to have long boxes full of comics, hundreds of actions figures, stacks of mags, tons of books and graphic novels, boxes of cassettes that rarely got played. As I'd move, I'd let go of some things each time.

Most of my hoarding is associated with music - CDs, records, guitar picks, promo photos, posters, etc. I probably have enough stuff to open a small rock and roll museum.

I did used to have a lot of older films on VHS, but a few months ago I donated most of them to my local library.

cds is really all the hoarding I engage in.

I've accidently started hoarding Turntables! I think that between standalones, portables and a console.......... I have eight..........

THe big hoard is music and music related paraphenalia, but I do dabble in movies and books as well...

Used to collect movies but space and time caused me to sell off/give away a large chunk of it. Now just stick to owning movies I love and will re-watch multiple times. Basically music stuff swallowed and over-took any movie collecting. That, and the quality of movies these days factored some into it.

I also collect Blu-rays (particularly Steelbook versions - films inside metal cases) and DVDs. I probably own as many of each of those as I do CDs.

Me too!

Ok, that's a lie. I also collect t-shirts, books, and DVDs. My dad calls me a hoarder but he is mostly a minimalist (except as far as books go) so any kind of collecting will be seen as hoarding to him.
