Went to a "discount cinema" today to escape the heat for awhile (no AC in my apartment), they were playing Prometheus.
Gotta say I was very disappointed in that film. It seems to me that Scott was trying to tell too large of a story for the rather short running time of the film, so the last third of the movie seemed entirely too compressed and nothing developed the way it should have.
Supposedly there is a longer cut (by about 30 minutes) that will be released on the blu-ray, hopefully that might shed some light and beef up the story content to the point where the film works better. Not really holding my breath though.
I watch lots of bad movies, but to me it's always more frustrating to see a movie with real potential coming up short like this, especially by someone with Scott's talent.
The Cardinals are on the west coast so I'm stuck watching Raw as well. Hasn't gotten much better lately IMO.
There was some hilarity with Paul Heymn and CM Punk having their talk outside the ring. I think they were dissussing what to eat. I swear I heard Paul say, "So what do you want to order?"

Paul Heyman on the mic is always good TV IMO. I like them hooking him up with Punk now that Lesnar's gone to wherever he goes.

"Me, Myself and Irene"
Raunchy slapstick adventure from the Farrelly Brothers stars Jim Carrey (in what may be his most manic performance to date) in a dual role as mild mannered "Charlie," a repressed Rhode Island state trooper, and his split-personality alter ego "Hank," a crazed maniac. When Charlie is assigned to escort a lovely witness (Renee Zellweger) back to New York State, both he and Hank battle for her affections on an increasingly twisted road trip that eventually includes mobsters, crooked cops, and a very hard to kill cow. A total hoot.

The original Looney Tunes are the best cartoons of all-time, nothing else comes even remotely close.
Today:
Source Code (2011) - This one slipped past me originally, excellent psychological/sci-fi thriller from the director of Moon (2009). If you like intelligent sc-fi I'd highly recommend it.

Have you seen any of this series? Warner Brothers painstakingly restored all the colors and removed as much of the defects as possible from the original "masters" (or whatever they're called in filmdom). Cartoons I remember watching in almost black and white are restored to vivid color (like Bugs vs the Gashouse Gorillas ("one, two, three strikesl yer out!"). They really do a nice job with these. There are 6 four-disc sets and I highly recommend them if you're a Looney Tunes fan like I am.

Only the first volume which I rented from Netflix at one point, they did look fantastic. I would love to buy all of them, one of these days when the finances cooperate.

Yeah, that was a cool flick, I saw it last year sometime.

I'll have to check it out; I dug "Moon".

Here's a little bit of trivia I didn't know. The director of Moon & Source Code, Duncan Jones, is David Bowie's son.
Just bought Source Code for about $5 ppd. I need something new to watch so thanks for the tip. It seems SD and I are much closer cinematically than musically.

The classics are great. The new Looney Tunes however, is some of the worst/humorless crap I've ever had the misfortune of watching. Sad that crap like that is always on TV, yet most of the classic Looney Tunes are mostly availiable on video only.

I've never seen the new Looney Tunes; I didn't even know there was such a thing.
The cartoons on these discs (for the most part) were created before even I was born (talk about old) but these are the ones I grew up with and watching them again just transports me back to when I was about 6 years old. But there are so many jokes in them that kids my age at the time would never understand; I love how WB threw parents a bone with these cartoons and I can now appreciate the fact all these years later.

I wasn't aware of the new one either, but I was using the cable guide and saw The Looney Tunes Show and thought it was the real thing. Apparently, Bugs, Daffy, Taz, Yosamite, Fudd, and all the rest live on the same street and have 'misadventures' with each other. Never cracked a smile and eventually changed the channel.
But there are so many jokes in them that kids my age at the time would never understand; I love how WB threw parents a bone with these cartoons and I can now appreciate the fact all these years later.
That's because these cartoons were never made with kids in mind as the target audience, they were made for adults. They played in front of Warner Bros. films in the theaters in the 1940s. While Disney targeted kids, WB focused on the adult crowd. It wasn't until TV took off in the 1950s and 60s that they started replaying these and targeting children.

Some of the documentaries in this series have Chuck Jones stating that some of the jokes in the Looney Tunes cartoons were deliberately targeted to parents just to keep them interested. As you state, he also said that they were originally intended for an adult audience but in the later years, he asked the storywriters to insert jokes that kids wouldn't get but parents would. Probably corresponds with the "takeoff" of TV.

As far as Looney Tunes and TV goes, it appears the earlier B&W toons were licensed to TV around 1953...the color toons weren't licensed for TV until 1956 and that license only applied to pre-1948 titles.
It looks like the early 60s was when they started airing them regularly on TV.
Looney Tunes were used to open theatrical films until 1969 when they were discontinued.
My kids watch the "new" Looney Tunes on Cartoon Network on occasion. It's more of a "sitcom" styled show rather than a half hour of shorts. Each show usually ends with a quick Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote sketch and those are usually pretty funny. I don't care for the new show but they seem to think it's funny. Then they'll ask me to pull one of my "real" Looney Tunes DVDs off the shelf for them.

...and the shorts they were producing around that time (late 60s) were pretty terrible. By that time Warner Bros. had shut down their in-house animation studio and were farming the work out to sub-contractors. A lot of them involved Daffy, Sylvester the Cat and Speedy Gonzales, and the animation was cheap, jerky, and crappy.
