New album, Anastasis, comes out tomorrow. Here's the new video:

Cannot wait to hear this thing. One of my all-time favorite bands. Love their solo work as well. Wish Perry had been as prolific as Lisa Gerrard had been during their split, though.

Great band, I've been a fan since I first discovered them in the mid-90s. They are touring again behind this new album, I bet that would be a unique experience.

When I worked at Strawberries, back around 1993 or so, we had to play these monthly promo cassettes that advertised albums and played songs from them. So we'd hear these songs dozens of times a month, and sometimes they'd carry songs over from previous months. Two or three months of hearing these same songs ten times a shift, five or six times a week, over and over and over again.

Ugh...

Usually this just made me hate the songs, but every now and then it had the opposite affect. Dead Can Dance was one of those bands I fell in love with because of those tapes. They were promoting the live album, Toward the Within, and the songs "Rakim" and "I Am Stretched on Your Grave" were on it. Absolutely brilliant songs, you know. I couldn't get enough of them.

And that was that. I've been a huge fan ever since.

I was also working in a record store when I discovered them. It was around 1995 (in Seattle) and people kept requesting them over and over and over again, we couldn't keep their discs in the store...so eventually I had to find out what all the fuss was about. I played "The Serpent's Egg" and was hooked immediately.

The "Toward The Within" video is fascinating to watch.
