When I worked at Strawberries, back around 1993 or so, we had to play these monthly promo cassettes that advertised albums and played songs from them. So we'd hear these songs dozens of times a month, and sometimes they'd carry songs over from previous months. Two or three months of hearing these same songs ten times a shift, five or six times a week, over and over and over again.
Ugh...
Usually this just made me hate the songs, but every now and then it had the opposite affect. Dead Can Dance was one of those bands I fell in love with because of those tapes. They were promoting the live album, Toward the Within, and the songs "Rakim" and "I Am Stretched on Your Grave" were on it. Absolutely brilliant songs, you know. I couldn't get enough of them.
And that was that. I've been a huge fan ever since.
