Other guilty pleasures are Scorpions- Eye II Eye and Megadeth - Risk.
I'll give you Risk, but Eye II Eye is a travesty. It's WORSE than St. Anger IMO.
No way is it worse than St. Anger! Very few albums are worse than that one. At least Eye II Eye had one good song, "Mind Like a Tree." Hell, that's a great song. St. Anger is shit through and through.
Worse? Hell no! At least if nothing else, you have to admit that the songs are well produced (I.E. no drums that sound like garbage cans), St. Anger had long, boring and incredibly repetitive songs tha tall sounded very similar to one another. I thought the songs on Eye II Eye were pretty interesting, my favorites on the album are Mysterious, Obsession, A Moment In A Million Years, the title track, Aleyah, Mind Like A Tree and Yellow Butterfly.

Eye II Eye isn't that good in the context of it being a Scorpions album. It is, however, listenable.

Haha! Ok, well then they are both shit.
I'll have to listen to that song again, but I don't remember any 'great' song on Eye II Eye. As I recall that song was the closest to actually sounding like a Scorpions songs.
The song was done a disservice by being put on that album. It's entirely out of place. Although it is rather different for them so it probably would have been out of place on any album.

Anathema, paradise lost, my dying bride and fates warning are examples of big changes. Iron maiden it could be argued are more prog rock than straight up heavy metal these days.
I could name loads of others but my point is if you can still write good music then change is good. If you write boring crap like st.anger, risk, skunkworks then the change of style means nothing. Crap is crap no matter the style.
I'm sorry, but Skunkworks was a fantastic album IMO. You also have to remember that it wasn't supposed to be under Bruce's name. It was supposed to be a side project but the record company would only let him do it under his name.

Ok, I know this isn't the point of this thread, but Skunkworks is a freaking great album. Sure, it's a bit "alternative" compared to Maiden or Accident of Birth/Chemical Wedding, but it has some of Bruce's best songs, imo. "Back from the Edge", "Inertia", and "Strange Death in Paradise" to name a few.
Ninja edit: I didn't see that there was another page of this where Skunkworks has already been defended... Good to see others enjoyed that one as well.

I dig both Skunkworks and Balls To Picasso, like both of those albums more than the more metallic ones he released later during his solo years.

So hey, isn't today the release date of FREQUENCY UNKNOWN?
Is anybody out there brave enough to bite the bullet and pick up a first day of release copy?
I'm tempted to go to Best Buy on my lunch break and see if it's there, just for the WTF factor.... but if it is, I'll end up buying it and I'm a little too broke this week for such nonsense....

Let us know how it works out and if you decide to actually buy it. I'm curious and would like to hear it. QR are just one of those bands I hang onto despite having been disappointed over and over again.

It's not gonna happen today, but I do plan on getting it (and the ToddRyche CD as well) eventually... firstly cuz I want to write a side-by-side "compare and contrast" review of both discs on my HubPages blog, and secondly, sooner or later one of these camps will lose the right to use the Queensryche name, therefore that side's CD is going to be a collector's item.

I still have Tate's first solo album in my collection (mainly cuz nobody ever wants it when I put it on my trade list...haha), and what little I've heard of "F.U." sounds slightly better than that. Notice I said "slightly."

Actually, someone here (who shall remain nameless) expressed interest in the Geoff Tate CD as soon as I posted that.

I'm going to wait for a used copy. But I have a feeling it won't sell much around here, therefore there won't be any used copies for years.
When I listened to American Soldier online, I thought it was extremely weak and decided to wait for it used. It took like three years before I even saw one used copy, let alone a cheap used copy. And I still don't have Dedicated to Chaos for the same reason. I've never seen it used.
Of course, I suspect Geoff will lose the right to the name, so I'll probably buy it sooner than later.

Buy 1, get 1 free...

Geoff Tate’s version of Queensryche are offering a free replacement of their album Frequency Unknown to anyone who’s bought it and doesn’t like the mix.
The band made moves to produce a new edit after some fans objected to the quality of preview clips ahead of the record’s release this week. They originally hired Billy Sherwood to turn his hand to producing a new version, but he bowed out citing time constraints.
Tate recently said: “We were a little rushed on the mixing end of it, so we’re having some of the songs remixed before the album comes out. That’s typical with records – you have to have them in on time. Luckily, with this situation, we get to go back and correct some areas where we thought it was kind of lacking. I’ve done that on probably three quarters of the records I’ve ever made.”
Record label Cleopatra say: “Simply email the label a scan of your actual receipt for the physical CD to Queensryche@cleorecs.com and they will happily send you a replacement disc, at no charge whatsoever. No questions asked!”

I believe so. I don't remember if you had to send some kind of "proof of purchase" though. I think you just had to send a request and they sent a replacement disc. I never did it. I purchased the re-mixed version later down the line at Best Buy.
