Anyone else picked this up yet? Thoughts? I like it, but probably not quite as much as most of the reviews that I've read. Definitely much better then any other newer stuff that Tate has been involved with, besides maybe Avantasia, though.
I was listening to it today driving around in my car. Sounds good, But maybe a few songs in a different tempo would have been nice. Need to listen to it more.

I enjoyed the sample and lyrics videos and such. I'll buy it. Lifting bits and pieces from old Queensryche songs is pretty blatant and lame, though.

I listened to some bits on YouTube - sounds decent but it's nothin' I would run out and buy.

It's just nice to hear him singing on something in this style again. And actually singing rather than half-talking his way through some extensive storyline.
Wasn't all that impressed upon first listen, but it grew on me on the second pass. I dig it. The chorus kind of reminds of a song from the first album, though.

Sounds good to me! Looks like Mr.Tate wanted more input on this cd. Kind of took over..
Reminds me of Sunstorm with JLT. The name sticks with the label.. But all the input from before is gone. Including JLT..
So next Sweet Oblivion cd might have a new lead singer.. Ronnie Romero maybe?
I was worried this wouldn't be a good album, was almost convinced of it, knowing that Simone wouldn't be involved. I kept remembering how he said Tate tried to change the songs on the last album and, like, rap on some of them. Haha. But I've been pleasantly surprised with the new tunes.
I wasn't impressed by the first single at first because it's a bit different, but I really dig it now, and this new one is pretty damn good as well.
Tate is his own worst enemy. Or his ego is. Once he lost that creative control he had over Queensryche, he's been part of some killer music! And his voice sounds great.
Sounds like something from the “Empire” days. His vocals have definitely improved. I think Todd singing in Queensryche has given him the motivation he needed to try harder.

That, possibly, and I would guess the biggest factor is that he's not in control, he can't half-ass it anymore and get away with it just because his ego convinces him it's great. Someone else is there pushing him to do better, I think.

Yeah, he definitely does better in a band situation. As you said... to keep his ego in check.
