I prefer '70s "love songs" like Captain Beyond-Starglow Energy.

When I think about memorable guitar solos the first song that always pops in my head is "Comfortably Numb".
One of my favorites as well.

Speaking of Bruce Dickinson, the song Man of Sorrow is a great example of a metal ballad.

Agreed. He has a lot of great ballads, come to think of it. Have you heard the unreleased bonus track "Acoustic Song"?

No one does ballads better then Testament. I really hope they put one on the new album after not having one on the last one.

I love most 80s and 90s power ballads, but the Scorpions were the king of them, one of their best being "You And I"

Yeah, as long as there's at least a little power involved. Gary Hughes of Ten is by far my favorite. "Yesterday Lies In The Flames" probabley his best, but he has done many other good ones. He's also written some good ones for others such as Bob Catley's "Deep Winter" or "Oceans of Tears" (Lana Lane).

Ten's Silent Rain has to be one of my all time favorites. Such a fantastic song:
