Trust me, it doesn't change. I'm now in my 50s and I still listen to the same styles of music I did 30 years ago. About the only thing that's changed is my tastes have broadened. I now enjoy bands like Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, etc that I totally hated in my younger days.

I am in early 40's and same thing, my taste have broadened but I still listen to the same music I did as a young lad

same here. I dont listen to everything i did when i was younger but i still enjoy a lot of it plus all the new genres of music I hadnt heard before.

Been into rock/metal since 1986 ... still picky, but Im beginning to like those bands that I hated during the early nineties (Ju Ju Hounds, Gruntruck, Nirvana, STP and amongst many others)

I don't know if this is the normal cycle of an average metalhead, but it seems to me like it is, I have friends who are 'goin though' the same process as well Laughing

I think tastes change over time. I know my tastes have. I still listen to a lot of the old stuff but I have made room for new material too. I find I get a lot less burnout and a lot more enjoyment out of listening to all kinds of different things.

If this is true, then one day I'll end up listening to dubstep since everyone I know is starting to love the stuff now....

I listened to 60's and 70's stuff in the 1970's

I listened to 60's, 70's, and 80's stuff in the 1980's

I listened to 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's stuff in the 1990's

and so on and so and so on

In My Humble Opinion...

...the amount of quality music has dwindled over time and that is sad when you consider the ammount of music available today as opposed to say 1975.

Nah. I think Dark Horseman was just trying to make a funny. I hope he's not quitting his day job. Razz

I completely agree. I could probably list 100 essential albums released in 1970 alone, but I had a hard time coming up with 10 for 2011 that I felt comfortable with.

I listen to music from the 1930's to the present day.

True. However, there is the distinct possibility that I was high on cough syrup and/or horse tranqulizers at the time.

I have started listening to some 20s music.

Crap, you know I should've put 20s myself, I mis-typed it. I think the earliest stuff I have are some 1927 recordings of the Duke Ellington band and a couple compilations of various jazz recordings.

Music was good in the 70's-80's because lots of musicians were into Acid.

If you have 'tried' Acid and Gummy Bears you know what I'm talkin about, acid is probably the greatest drug ever created... Very Happy

I think you mean the 60's and 70's in regards to acid. The 70's and 80's were cocaine as far as musicians were concerned.

yeah I could of did my lil anology to apply to decades prior to the 1960's. I have some 78's that are from the 20's, 30's and later. Swing, Blues, Big Band,
Country, and a lil Jazz.

It depends on how good the transfer is. Most reissue labels run that stuff through noise reduction software that strips away the surface noise...but also sucks all the life out of the music. There are a few specific reissue labels (Frog, JSP) that take the time to master these pre-tape sources correctly and they can surprise you with the amount of detail they captured.

I also have some early stereo experimental recordings from 1932 that are quite interesting.

I figured that since the source material wouldn't be very clean, (lots of hiss, etc), that the reissues wouldn't be all that great sounding. But then again, my knowledge of modern recording processes, let alone 1920's recording, is rudimentary at best.

That sounds REALLY interesting!!!!

I've been getting into 78s myself. I have an Edison record from the late 20s early 30s, I think. I'll have to check that again. It's noisy as hell, but I know those read in a different direction.
