Maybe you're thinking of Megadeth, who are apparently mistaken as a thrash band by some folks as well.

Back to the topic at hand:
What are some of your favourite tracks of Fight? Do you prefer the fast killers like Into The Pit or Nailed To The Gun or more mid-paced crushers like Immortal Sin?
My favourites would be: Into The Pit, Nailed To The Gun, Immortal Sin and Kill It. I also liked the title track from War Of Words. Also the Fight cover of "Freewheel Burning" is AMAZING!

I like Fight for the same reason I liked Priest. That was Halford.

I like every song on WOW. Nailed to the gun and into the pit are probably my favs, but not because they are the staple ones everyone likes. The guitar riffs are freakin amazing, his vox are crazy.....Hard to put into words why I probably like those two songs best, but like I said, I love every song on the album.....I've got Kill it runnin through my mind right now...probably my least favorite...But still kicks major Ass!

BTW Pantera was never "core". They might have the look of 90's hardcore but musically there is not a shred of hardcore in them. They bare no resemblance to either old school hardcore like Minor Threat, Scream, Void or say M.D.C. or even the newer stuff like Integrity or Earth Crisis.
i never said they were "core". as a matter of fact, i said they were metal for sure. i was speaking of influence. vocally there is a definite hardcore influence & musically, there were grindcore influences especially on FBD & GST.

I would kind of agree on the vocal influence but not much really. Hardcore singers were not really diverse in their vocal approach while Anselmo could sing and deliver his vocal lines in all sorts of ways. Although I agree that on Pantera standards like Walk etc. he did deliver a hardcore-inspired shout.
As for the grindcore influences I do not hear those. If we understand grindcore as stuff like Carcass, Napalm Death, Repulsion, Terrorizer then I hear no direct grindcore influence. GST has a more extreme metal feel but I would not pinpoint it to grindcore (at least not grindcore alone).
As for Fight - I love the combination of Halford's vocals and the badass music. The production is what makes it for me too - I love that fat drum and guitar sound and the slamming bass. The music just oozes attitude and aggression and I love that. One of the reasons I love stuff like Pantera or the Cro-Mags (which supposedly were an inspiration for Fight too).

I never did buy either Fight album when they were new releases, but about two years ago I happened across the box set online for $5, new and unopened, including s/h, and thought it was too good a deal to pass up since I was trying to complete my Priest collection at the time anyway.
War of Words is a decent album. I like the faster thrashy songs like "Into the Pit" and "Nailed to the Gun" the most. Mostly I just think it's cool to hear Halford step outside of the Priest mold a bit and do some heavier and darker metal. I don't remember a whole lot about A Small Deadly Space, other than I didn't like it as much as the first album. I probably need to listen to it again and get a refresher, but I thought it was kinda "meh" at the time.
The included autograph was a super neat-o perk. I didn't care much about the Mutations disc but the live tracks were cool. The live DVD was enjoyable and some of the songs seemed a bit better in a live setting (as usual with anything Rob Halford is involved with it seems, there's just something about the man in a live setting that isn't captured in the studio). Overall it's not something I listen to frequently but it's enjoyable stuff, and for the cost of a hamburger I can't complain. My particular box was number 474/2500.
I can't compare the original mixes to the remixes unfortunately because I only own the remixes. One of these days I'll pick up the originals.

This song isn’t officially a Fight song (it’s Rob with Pantera), but it inspired Rob to create the band.
I like it better than anything on War of Words. Although “Nailed to the Gun” comes close!
