| "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" is on of my favorite songs, especially the live version from All The Worlds A Stage.
"A Farewell to Kings" is probably my favorite album with "Caress of Steel" and "2112" following closely behind. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| I quite like Power Windows. There are so many layers of music to listen to on that one that it makes it a GREAT headphone album. The only ones that don't get a lot of play are Test For Echo and beyond.
I'll have to spin those soon.

| My favorite period of Rush is from Hemispheres through Grace Under Pressure. All of those albums are perfection in my eyes. The individual favorites would probably be:
1.) Permanent Waves 2.) Signals 3.) Moving Pictures
I seem to enjoy Rush's more streamlined sound (before they got too keyboard heavy for my tastes).

| Is it just me or...this band doesn't really appeal to most younger generations out there, I mean I know A lot of kids who's into QUEEN, Neil Young and Early Sabbath....But RUSH, ugh, I do tend to agree, it is an acquired taste plus factors you have to add like those bizarre album cover art on every LP, man, really this is one of those bands that I can't seem to understand let alone grasp what they're trying to convey musically, it's Bizaareness written all over

| For us 70's kids aspiring to be musicians.....Rush was a benchmark for some. Others were into other stuff. You still couldn;t deny talent and uniqueness though.

| There are so many layers to Rush, that after decades of listening to them I still find myself hearing things in new ways and discovering elements I didn't notice before. VERY few bands are like that, where you can get enjoyment from one aspect and then 20 years later hear something new from the same album.
I never used to like the Hold Your Fire album, thought it was the weakest in their catalog, but I listened to it a few weeks ago and enjoyed the whole record...it was like "really" hearing it for the first time. That essence of discovery fascinates me.
That's the mark of a truly great band in my opinion.

| Can't get into them too. Though like a Christian band Trytan, which sounds like a more metal Rush. | |

Yes! I like their 70's stuff. The 80's hit and "poof"! they've written about 6 songs in 32 years that I like. But their 70's stuff...classic.

| I'm not much of a fan either. I had their 2 disc Chronicles set at one time, but I ditched it. The only Rush album I own is the ep of covers they put out a few years ago.
I think too much radio airplay has soured me on this band. Even sattelite radio played the hell out of them and they played deeper tracks, not just the hits. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I'm just a casual Rush fan and really know only their songs that get radio play. I only own Chronicles and the other 2 albums that I've heard in their entirety (Moving Pictures and Signals) were over 20 years ago ! | |

| You either like 'em or you don't. Don't think I've ever met a casual Rush fan. My song is Red Barchetta, that sealed the deal for me. I'm more of a fan starting with Exit Stage Left, which to me is the one to get if you are to get only one. |

That was what originally attracted me to Rush. My introduction to them was a concert MTV (man, early MTV was awesome that way) showed and I thought they were so unique and cool. I was just listening to the debut the other day after having bought Beyond The Lighted Stage. Easily my favorite Rush album, but I'm a fan of them all. I'd recommend that one for haters because it's just a more straight forward rock record. A great starting point.

| I HATED Rush growing up. I mean hated them, loathed them. Every time "Limelight" came on the radio I would cringe. Then one day, totally out of the blue, I think I had it on VH1 or something and I was half paying attention, when the live video for "Tom Sawyer" came on. It was like I'd just heard the song for the first time and I realized "Whoa... Rush rules."
Go figure.
The only thing different I can think of around that time is I had just started learning how to play guitar and I was clumsily trying to figure out how the hell to write a song, and I had really started paying closer attention to the musicianship and songwriting of everything I listened to at the time. It's a little funny in hindsight, around that time I started listening to and liking a lot of stuff that I didn't like before, and a lot of bands that I loved before I couldn't stand to listen to. I don't consider myself an expert on anything or a virtuoso by any stretch of the imagination, but I guess I was just starting pay attention to a lot of things that I didn't notice so much before. Just simple stuff really, it was like before that I never even noticed what an incredible drummer Neil Peart is, or how well those three musicians really jam together. Somehow that all got lost on me before I had a guitar in my hands.
Like others have mentioned repeatedly Rush are just one of those bands. You either "get" it or you don't, and I can definitely understand why a lot of people DON'T. I was there once.

For years I loathed 'Hold Your Fire' then one day I saw the album used on CD and bought it to replace my cassette copy, and listened to it again, and I was surprised how much I liked it.

| Rush was one of the first bands I really got into. I can remember when I first started playing bass trying to figure out some of Geddy's bass lines. Been playing for 25 years & still can't get half of them!! Three of the most talented musicians in the world, What's not to love?? | |

| I didn't like Rush when I first heard them, it took me a while to get into them. The era I personally love is the first four albums and Hemispheres. The first two albums aren't that progressive, they are pretty much straight-forward '70s hard rock albums, maybe you'd like those. I'd say that the next two albums still have that '70s hard rock sound but with a more progressive structure, if that makes sense. | |

| Fly By Night and 2112 albums are perfect to me. It took years for me to even try listening to post-Moving Pictures, due to urging by die hard RUSH fans, I finally did and they have released some cool stuff, but no overall great albums like from the 1970s/early 80s | |

'Hippie-esque' perhaps, actually I skip all those bands that have the same 70's psychedelic -sounding production character, because I just couldn't relate.. Led Zep and Hendrix for example

| I'm with Ultmetal. Farewell to Kings is definitely my favorite album, though I like a ton of their stuff.
One song I really used to hate is "Spirit of Radio." I guess because of radio overplay. But then about 2 years ago I finally bought Permanent Waves and in the process of digesting that album I realized how incredibly amazing that song is. It's a progressive masterpiece.
In the next couple years I'm hoping to finally start checking out their 80s albums. As of now I just have the 70s and 2000s albums
