I'm tempted because I don't know if I'll have a job/the money to buy the CD when it's released.

Does previewing off the internet kill the urge of acquiring the physical copy?

Not necessarily, but it takes away from some of the sweet agony of anticipation.

In my opinion, nothing beats that experience of putting a brand new cd I've heard nothing (or almost nothing) from and being completely blown away!

Only if I don't like the album.
These days most albums get released on Spotify the same day as the physical disc, I'll wait until this shows up there to check it out. Then if I like it I'll buy a copy.

That's how I feel about it too. I'll give a song a listen to but not the whole album.

This!
Love popping that CD open and giving it a spin for the first time as you page through the booklet.
It's Overkill. It will rule.

That's usually how I am, but only with bands I'm familiar with (like in this situation). I really want to do so with this album, but I'm not sure how long I'll be unemployed or even if I'll get unemployment so I might make an exception in this case. However, I will get the album once I have the money for it.

"Killing Kind" is very underrated IMO. That combined with "Horrorscope" sounds killer to me. I'm going to hold out until I buy it though.

I had to take a trip to my company's main office this afternoon, which fortunately took me past a cool "indie" record store. On a whim I stopped on the way home and yup, ELECTRIC AGE was already on the shelf so I got me one.
Only got to listen to about five tracks' worth on the drive home but so far...

So is it out already? I may have to swing by the record store two miles away and see if they have it, or wait until Monday to go where I know will have it.

The "official" street date is this Tuesday (the 27th) I believe.

Generally POSITIVE Reviews thus far....Here's One from METALASSAULT.COM...I don't think nobody here will disagree that 'Electric Age' is indeed better than 'Ironbound'
Two years back, thrash legends Overkill put out “Ironbound”, one of the best metal albums released in recent times, and if anyone needed proof of the fact that the band is as strong as ever, Ironbound was it. On the back of that tremendously successful album and an absolutely fantastic world tour which swept all attendees off their feet, Overkill are back with their sixteenth studio album “The Electric Age”, an album I’ve been anticipating with baited breath. After such an incredible album, it must have been a hard task to follow it up, and now it’s time for me to find out whether the band has successfully done so.
From the outset, it’s clear to me that they have adopted a similar approach to songwriting for this one as they did on Ironbound. The result is an album that truly sounds like the next step forward in the band’s musicianship, but closely resembles its predecessor, which isn’t a bad thing at all. In fact, that could turn out to be the best thing about this album, because if you’re a thrash fan, it’s more than likely that you loved Ironbound. The band’s sound on The Electric Age will form a vice-like grip on the minds of thrash fans right from its first note all the way to its last.
D.D. Verni’s thunderous bass sound was the most notable aspect of Overkill’s sound on “Ironbound”, and thankfully, that hasn’t changed on this album. This is what places them head and shoulders above most other thrash bands, and if some of these other bands had a bass sound even half as good as D.D. Verni’s, thrash fans would be in heaven. Of course, I have maintained over the past couple of years that Bobby Blitz is currently the best thrash frontman, and this album showcases exactly why that’s true. His voice is only getting better with age, and the manner in which he pulls off these vocals is mind-boggling. These heaps of praise on Bobby and D.D are totally deserved, but not at all meant to undermine the efforts of guitarists Dave Linsk and Derek Tailer, and drummer Ron Lipnicki. They play a huge part in making this album an irresistible force.
Not surprisingly, the album has its fair share of blisteringly fast tunes, but it has more musical depth than you would expect from it. That’s one area in which it’s better than Ironbound, in my opinion. It boasts of some delightfully slow, dark and melodic passages interlaced within the unabridged ferociousness of the faster segments. Even after a good number of complete listens of the album, it’s literally impossible for me to pick a favorite tune. I find every single one of them to be equally mind-blowing, and I actually think this album has a better flow from track to track as compared to Ironbound, which compels me to listen to it as one giant 50-minute piece of music.
I never doubted Overkill’s ability to deliver a follow-up to an album like Ironbound, and they have vindicated my faith by coming up with “The Electric Age”, a very worthy successor. I’m sure Ironbound is still strongly etched in the minds of fans, but I certainly think the new album matches up to it, and given the time, it has the potential to be regarded as an album one step ahead of Ironbound, in every sense of the term.
Overkill’s “The Electric Age” is a scorching thrashterpiece that will enhance the band’s legendary status even further, and will ensure the successful continuity of the band’s quest to infect the whole planet with headbanger whiplash. Even though we’re still in the early part of 2012, I think I’ve found my album of the year already. Do yourselves a favor, buy it right now, at this very moment.

Another One....
Apart from the new Accept album, The Electric Age is probably the most anticipated thrash release of 2012. Why? Two years ago, Overkill put out Ironbound, a killer of a record that brought together all the various elements of Overkill’s not insubstantial discography in a sophisticated, cohesive and utterly brilliant whole. Ironbound was, to me, the pinnacle of Overkill’s sound – it was what they’d been shooting for all these years, and they’d finally reached it. The problem is, when you’ve released an album like that – an album that many fans consider the peak and the zenith of your abilities – how do you follow it up? You follow it up with The Electric Age, and you raise a middle finger to all who doubted you. If you were a fan of Ironbound, you’re going to love The Electric Age, as it basically takes the sound Overkill perfected on that record, and extends it even further. If you’re not a fan of Ironbound, you’re just silly. Namely, D.D. Verni’s epic, thunderous bass sound that raised Ironbound above so many other decent thrash albums still soars like a storm cloud over this album. The deepening of the bass balances the high screams and lightning fast guitar work to create the ultimate thrash monster. The songwriting on The Electric Age is also more dynamic, with slower sections and darker riffs interspersed with all the thrash craziness. I am struggling to pick out memorable songs, simple because this is one of those rare albums where every track grabs you. The opening of “Come and Get it” reminds me of Metallica’s “Fight fire with Fire” – in fact the whole album has the feeling of Kill ‘em All‘s take-no-prisoners thrash attack, except, of course, with better vocals. ”Electric Rattlesnake” – has some silly lyrics, but awesome riffs and vocals. “Black Daze” is another ripper, and “Drop the Hammer” … look, just listen to the damn thing. If this does not appear on the majority of writers’ “Best Albums of 2012″ lists … I will eat my favorite hat. It is a NZR Diesel drivers hat which I wear when I’m driving trains, and I quite like it. This is no idle bet, but I don’t expect to lose. For a band with such a prolific – and not wholly exceptional – history to be pumping out such quality albums right now, with the landscape of metal changing so dramatically, with genres hopping in and out of fashion every five minutes … it puts a real smile on your face. Thank the gods for thrash metal, which doesn’t need innovation to still sound good. Thank the Gods for Overkill.
