| I can definitely hear some ACCEPT influence in EXODUS's riffing, but they are still not a thrash band. Especially nowadays.

| I think eyesore is right, the guy is an idiot. If the only Accept song you ever heard was Fast As A Shark maybe I could understand it. But more likely the dude is just clueless.

| ...and speaking of Exodus, this track "Wish You Were Dead" has kind of an Exodus vibe to the main riff. |

| He should have just said: Apart from the new Accept album, The Electric Age is probably the most anticipated metal release of 2012. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| The song posted sounds pretty damn good. I'll wait to get my physical copy before listening to anymore. I have to say I think those two reviews are "overselling" this album. I understand at the end of the day, it's just their opinion, but when I see things like "Ironbound, one of the best metal albums released in recent times," it doesn't really get me all that excited about The Electric Age. I thought Ironbound was good, but not great. Yeah, I know, that's just my crappy opinion. | |

I agree with you. Ironbound is a good record, but not a "classic" or anything. I think the tendency these days is definitely to "oversell" reviews, especially when dealing with older bands still working the scene. Because of their stature, the reviewers slobber all over them, even if the album isn't that good. A lot of reviews come across to me as "street team" members who are trying to push the album sales of their favorite bands. Nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. |

| Every metal album by a stalwart long-standing metal band who has been around for decades that doesn't veer too far away from their previous blueprint is considered "solid" and therefore good, regardless of its actual quality.
It's a sad state of affairs. But by doing this metalheads bring it on themselves because that is all the old bands have to give us in order to get our $ and kudos.
"Ironbound" was enjoyable but the reviews from people were WAY over the top. It's better than listening to Lamb of God or "Death Magnetic" so I guess it seems good if that's someone's basis of comparison.

| What I have personally noticed about some of the recent albums by Overkill, Megadeth, Testament, etc...is that the albums sound good the first time I play them, then less so each repeated listen. I also have a very hard time remembering any specific songs from these albums, they don't stick in my head like they used to. That could be me...or it could be the songs...or a combination of both (probably the latter).
Without cheating by looking it up, from "Ironbound" the only songs I can remember are "The Green & Black" and "Bring Me The Night" (though honestly, when I think of that second song I get it confused with "This Day We Fight" from Megadeth...which is the only song I can remember from that Megadeth album).
It's not that I'm senile. I can still sing along with all the lyrics to "The Conjuring" or "Elimination" and I could probably sing the entire Reign In Blood album from memory. For some reason, that doesn't seem to happen with alot of these bands now. I listen to this music less, but is that because maybe the newer stuff just isn't that memorable...or just because my tastes moved on. Not really sure, probably somewhere in between again.
The only band from this era still recording new albums that get "stuck in my head" is Slayer. "World Painted Blood", "Americon", "Hate Worldwide", "Jihad", "Cult"...I can hear all those songs clearly in my head. But Slayer seems to be in the minority in that respect now...at least for me. And even with Slayer, there are fewer tracks from each album that stick compared to their earlier releases.

| Yes, that SLAYER album is great and still holds up. Same thing with the last EXODUS album.

| As far as new Overkill goes, I think the two that have held up best for me are Bloodletting and Immortalis. I've liked the rest but I don't revisit them much | |

| The songwriting of most bands these days is an after-thought without much time/effort put into cobbling together anything memorable. They want props for "staying true" and consider that to be synonymous with actually being good.
The most effort today goes into:
1. working on someone's technique (even if it is not used to do anything interesting) 2. playing tons of shows/releasing a lot of material (even if it goes in one ear and out the other) 3. spending all ones time with one's family and at one's job
Few of us are 20 anymore and can afford to spend all the time/effort it takes to do everything everyone thinks is essential for a metal band to do. Something has to give.

| As for Overkill, Immortalis is my favorite by them, love the groove they have on that one. I think as you get older you've heard most of it before so it's hard to get as excited as you used to. My problem is, I like too much. | |

| Anyone that thinks World Painted Blood is (1) better than Ironbound and (2) an actual "good" album is probably someone born without ears. Yuck. It's one of Slayer's weakest efforts. | |

We all have different opinions on what is a good/bad album. I think World Painted Blood is a better album and I have ears, thank you very much. |

| Slayer's been pretty much dead to me after 'Divine Intervention'
'World Painted Blood' is just another 'Christ Illusion part 2' to my ears, too much shouting from Araya with no melodic complement from either King or Hanneman, they have lost their touch..'Seasons..' was at the peak of their creative glory while In 'Divine Intervention' they began to lose it , though I'd still rate 'Divine' as a very good album

| I still haven't had time to give ELECTRIC AGE a full spin but from what I've heard thus far, I'm a happy camper. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"
