black metal or death metal?

Death metal... although I used to be a big BM fan too. Basically for me death metal has really stood the test of time kinda thing. BM... I got mixed feelings, there's awesome bands (Mayhem, Darkthrone, Satyricon, Burzum, Emperor...) and albums out there, but I find myself listening to only the oldies when I am in a BM mood (which is pretty seldom these days to be perfectly honest). It's like if a friend tells me tomorrow "dude check out this DM band" I surely will. But if it were BM... dunno, I'll be thinking of pimpled teens pretending to be evil or something... I just can't take it seriously anymore. The sole spirit of BM was totally spoiled ages ago. Their ideals of nihilism, individualism, mysticism and denial of any sort of deity (far away from Satanism) became a mockery because of all the crap bands that cropped up at the time with promo pictures that would make any mortal burst into laughter in a matter of seconds.

I like black metal better, because it's a little bit camp.

Death metal, but I've kinda gotten burned out on a lot of it. Favorite band is Death.

I like a bit of both it really depends on my mood I guess.

I like old school death metal, but I never liked black.

Aside from one Immortal album, which basiclly is trad metal in disguise, Atheist and Cynic - neither.

Easily Black Metal, Death Metal gets really repetitive at times.

I highly respect death metal, but it's seasonal for me. Every so often I'll go off on a tangent and get hog wild with Morbid Angel, Obituary, Autopsy etc (I don't necessarily count bands like Death and Mortification as sheer death metal; don't ask me why). But it wears me down after a while and I pack it up, back to thrash and power I go. Plus, I really never remember any of the tunes. I still can't tell you which is which just by looking at a track listing. It's all fun to listen to, but has little staying power with me.

I'm with OCI. All mettle ist trve mettle.

I am not huge on either, but I prefer death metal way more than black metal.

But to be honest, what I prefer most for either genre is the earlier parts where it borders on thrash. I like Mayhem's first jam and Bathory. Plus I do like Darkthrone's new stuff which isn't really black. And like like the solo stuff from the Immortal guys.

And for Death, again, I like the thrashier stuff like Death, Solstice, Possessed, Obituary even.

On the other hands there were bands that could masterfully combine both styles: DISSECTION definitely comes to mind right off the cuff.
