That cd got really slept on IMO. Great stuff on there.
Gotta agree. It's a solid album. Not sure why it got ignored.
Probably because it's Bruce Kulick.
Probably. I was thinking of the music, though, which is quite good. It's too bad.

That Danger Danger record is great. Good luck getting FU$ out of your head.
The thing about that Bruce Kulick disc that surprised me was how diverse it was, yet cohesive. And strong all the way through. I went into it not expecting much and couldn't believe how much I ended up loving it. A real frequent player.

Though overplayed, I think this is the band's best album; just a hair ahead of Equinox.

Another band I own nothing by and have heard very little of. I actually almost request the same disc through SwapaCD, but decided not to, for whatever reason.
Worth exploring?

I'd definitely say YES! But since you apparently know little music by Styx (how is that even possible?), I'd start with Equinox. Other worthy Styx albums are Crystal Ball, Serpent Is Rising, Pieces of Eight and of course Grand Illusion.
My nickname in college was "Styx" because they were my favorite band at the time so I'm intimately familiar with their catalogue until the point where Dennis DeYoung left.

Based on the stuff you like Ken, I would say you would enjoy Styx. That likelihood increases since I can't stand them. LOL.
Anybody remember the episode of That 70's Show where Eric wants to camp out to get Styx tickets and he's the only one that shows up?

I probably know more than I realize. You gotta remember, the 90s were my era of music. It's why I love so much of the modern stuff. Because of that, and because I was way more close-minded when I was younger, even though I was a lot more open-minded than most, I just missed a lot of classic bands.
I literally bought my first AC/DC album a couple years ago. My first Motorhead album was bought last year.

Then I would definitely start with Equinox. That album has some Styx classics like Suite:Madame Blue and the single Lorelei but for my money the best tracks are the ones you only heard on Album Oriented Radio (back when AOR really meant that). Stuff like Shooz and Born For Adventure are great IMO.
End of course I can't forget "Light Up" with it's stereophonic toking. Equinox was the last album where Styx was a "head band"; after this one they went much more mainstream mainly thanks to Tommy Shaw.

Or this one from Grand Illusion. If you don't like either one, I'd say pass on Styx.

If Styx had a different vocalist during the 70s I probably would have liked them more. Something about DeYoung just cracks me up, he starts to sing and I get the giggles. I've never been able to take them seriously because of it.
I love the song Renegade, but that's a Tommy Shaw tune and he also sings the lead. Maybe I should find out which songs DeYoung "doesn't" sing on and just listen to those sometime.

Check out the second vid I posted above. That's James Young on vocals; the songs he wrote tend to be the hardest ones in the Styx catalog.

I remember "Miss America", back in the days prior to "Clear Channel Hell" you could actually hear that song on the radio. It's a good solid rocker...with those trademark "backing vocals so high only dogs can hear" that was the Styx trademark.

Serpent Is Rising is the only one of those I don't have. If I see it at Movie Trading Company tomorrow I'll pick it up (they're having a buy two get one free sale for Easter weekend).
