You guys heard about this project?
http://www.rsssworldwide.com
Apparently two dudes named Rockstar and Superstar (seriously) put together a metal album to help raise awareness of substance abuse. Here's the bio:
Quote :
SERENITY," which is the first ever music CD recommended by Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors, has taken nearly two years to complete and is finally here!!! Your order of SERENITY will come with autographed THANK YOU card from SUPER STAR and also include some cool ROCK STAR and SUPER STAR dog tags! ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY! Each CD comes in a 6-panel digipack and includes a SERENITY Prayer Poster!
The new dynamic Duo of Rock, legally named ROCK STAR & SUPER STAR, are seriously kickin' things up, way up! Reaching for the stars as always, these rockin' ruffian twin brothers have teamed up with a legendary producer and the who's who of metal to deliver a life-changing concept album destined to make rock roll history. The STARS' debut CD, titled SERENITY, is a first-of-its-kind project spun to raise awareness of the ever-growing issue of substance abuse.
Inspired by SUPER STAR'S own battle for sobriety, the brothers wrote and recorded the material for SERENITY alongside many of their musical heroes to show others facing the struggle that great things can come from the decision to stay sober.
Joining the fight via guest appearances on the CD are music icons including Cherie Currie (RUNAWAYS), Stevie Rachelle, (TUFF), George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB), Chris Caffery (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Carlos Cavazo (QUIET RIOT, RATT), Mark Slaughter (SLAUGHTER), Zak Stevens (SAVATAGE, CIRCLE II CIRCLE), Jon Oliva (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Bruce Kulick (KISS, UNION), Howard Leese (HEART), Bob Kulick (MEAT LOAF), Lorraine Lewis (ex-FEMME FATALE, ROKTOPUSS), David Schultz (GOO GOO DOLLS, BERLIN), Veronica Freeman (BENEDICTUM), Ted Poley (DANGER DANGER), Todd La Torre (CRIMSON GLORY), and of course ROCK STAR aka Marc Kancler (Guitars) and SUPER STAR aka Kris Kancler (Drums) and many more.
Hell of a line-up! Zak Stevens is on a bunch of songs. Mark Slaughter, thankfully, appears to only be playing guitar. Haha. But yeah, Zak, Oliva and Caffery are on a track. Probably the closest we'll get to a Savatage reunion any time soon.
I just ordered the CD. Looks like it's been out a good while, though, so maybe you already know about it.

Which vocals? In that first video they sound fine. Could be just the YouTube upload, you know. I'll obviously let everyone know what the CD sounds like.

I hear what your saying. Its Zak. He's a great vocalist but he always seems off to me when hes doing this sort of music. CIIC is ok but sometimes his vocals don't sit well, Machines Of Grace was ok too I even seen them live and he sang great but his vocals are more for Savatage type stuff, more operatic in a way. Its hard hearing him do other stuff sometimes.

Oh and by reading the description of the project its kind of a turn off by the corny writing.

Hahaha Yea this was my instant turn off "seriously kickin' things up, way up! " and "Reaching for the stars as always, these rockin' ruffian twin brothers "
It is a good cause though.

I have a very different outlook on addiction. All the AA nonsense and support groups and whatnot, I think are crap. They're supposed to keep people strong, but I think it keeps them weak. So I ignore stuff like that.

Those clips sound quite great, I will definitely have to check it out.
I'm still reeling about the fact that the promised Savatage mini-reunion of the TSO European tour didn't come together. Jon Oliva was meant to be coming out on the road and him, Pitrelli, O'Neill and whoever else were going to run through a small set of Savatage tracks. Unfortunately, Jon had a death in the family and so could no longer make it. The guy rarely seems to catch a break.

Can't believe I was blind to the irony of this whole thing at first. Jon Oliva contributing on an album for sobriety? HAH, that's like sending a wolf to talk you out of eating mutton!

But he is sober, right? Or is he still struggling with that? It'd be more ironic if it were Jon trying to talk you out of eating mutton. Haha.

Jon, sober? That'll be the day! His band members have to hide his booze to prevent him from drinking on-stage!

Wait, seriously? I thought he stepped away from fronting Savatage to get himself sober and that he's been sober since? Not true?

Far from it! The one time I met him (in 1998) he was drinking vodka, straight from the bottle! I know this guy who is pretty close to Jon, and he has told me on several occasions about Jon drinking habits.

Yeah, when I saw JOP in 2007 (I think it was), Jon was knocking back the drinks on stage like nobody's business. He sounded amazing despite it, mind.
