| Little bit of old news here (their album is out already), but some folks here might be interested. I know I am... - Quote :
- As evidenced by the success of such acts as Velvet Revolver, Chickenfoot, and Black Country Communion in recent years, the "super group" is back en vogue. And the trend continues with the arrival of a new band comprised of hard rockin' notables, 9 Chambers.
The group is comprised of rock producer/singer/guitarist Greg Hampton (who has worked with Alice Cooper, Bootsy Collins, and Lita Ford), as well as ex-Monster Magnet guitarist Ed Mundell and current Gov't Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson, while ex-Heaven & Hell/Dio/Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice has played drums on the recordings up to now, and there will be an array of different renowned drummers playing on the record.
Hampton explained the group's sound as containing a retro rock vibe. "Ed said our record collections are very similar. We're both from a certain era that's real honest music. There's like, Captain Beyond - not a lot of guys dig that. And we were on an Armageddon kick for a while. A lot of Paul Kossoff and Free stuff. But there's a lot of stuff with weird tunings that we've been goofing around with, like some of the stuff that Jimmy Page did, and implementing them into the intent of what we're unconsciously moving towards."
9 Chambers has currently signed on with management, and are negotiating a record label deal. Also, an official band website was officially launched, which includes audio samples of three tunes. Add a dash of record label hype... - Quote :
- Don't you miss the days of when Hard Rock bands sounded like a real band? No Auto-Tune, no outside songwriters, no B.S. just the sound of a band rocking out in a live setting and letting the chips fall where they may.
The newly launched 9 Chambers certainly remember those aforementioned glory days and prove it to the max on their self-titled debut. Beginning as a collaboration between Hard Rock veterans Greg Hampton (who has worked with the likes of Alice Cooper, Bootsy Collins, Lita Ford, and on recently unearthed Tommy Bolin recordings) and former Monster Magnet guitar guru Ed Mundell, along with Gov't Mule virtuoso bassist Jorgen Carlsson and Black Sabbath/Dio/Heaven & Hell drummer Vinny Appice, the 9 Chambers Rock & Roll pedigree is undoubtedly beyond impressive.
And 9 Chambers (the album) does not disappoint by any means, sounding pretty much smack dab in the middle of all of their combined past projects. This is heavy, organic stuff kids: 70 s influenced Hard Rock, stoner/groove elements, tight playing, lots of guitar weaving and no studio trickery, all with their front foot firmly planted in 2011. 9 Chambers (the band) definitely have something on the go here that has been sadly missing from the Rock & Roll cannon for some time. Call it chops, call is songwriting, call it pure and uncompromised Hard Rock. Call it 9 Chambers! _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.
