I will guess that many here are too young and have NO idea who they were, and the ones that do, will be "supercool" and deny they ever heard of them.
I was born in the spring of 1968, so when Roller fever hit Toronto in 1975/76, even us Grade 2 children were in for the mania ride. I have read over the years we were little nuts, just like Beatlemaniacs. for example, We RAN home after school just to see IN TIME , them on the Mike Douglas Show just for them to say "hello",and then ride away on dune buggies on a beach.

I have only the vaguest memory of the BCR's. Other than "Saturday Night" I don't think I can even name any of their songs.
I do remember having some Bay City Rollers trading cards (!) when I was a kid. I bought a box of still-sealed card packs (sports and non-sports) at a yard sale and there were a few packs of them in the mix. Again, I had only the dimmest idea of who they were but I remember thinking they liked plaid. A LOT.

I barely remember them, and I think the only song I know is 'Saturday Night', that is all I know about them.

Out of curiosity I looked up their greatest hits album on Amazon. I recognized 2 other songs, "Rock N Roll Love Letter" (I know the version by The Records) and "I Only Want To Be With You" (which I think has been recorded by at least a half dozen bands).

That's about all I remember as well.

It is weird I don't remember them, because I remember the Patridge Familiy, that Archies song "Sugar Sugar' , but the Bay City Rollers, do not remember them at all, especially since these guys sounded like the New Kids of the Block and Nync of their day.

I think they were featured in a segment on one of those VH-1 "I love the 70's" shows. I seem to remember them wearing horrible brown and yellow plaid jumpsuits singing that 'Saturday Night' song.
Groovy.

Yeah I definitely remember those guys. I remember seeing them on some variety show (which were everywhere on tv back then) performing their signature song. Gotta give them credit, they certainly had a song that sticks in your head (like it or not).

According to my good friend Wik E. Pedia, they were part of a Saturday morning Kroftt variety show for about 15 minutes back in '79.

I always liked that song. I have one of the Rollers albums, it is REALLY good pop featuring Duncan Faure of Rabbitt(Trevor Rabins old band). It's a more mature effort, so it didn't sell well.

This is what I find amazing about this board, no matter what band someone throws out here, someone is either a fan or has at least heard of them. This the most musically diverse group of metalheads in the world.

i used to watch them on TV when I was a kid. Can't say I ever liked 'em or hated 'em, they were just there.

They were a big band when I was in grade school. A lot of my friends from school were into them. I didn't like them as I was already a fan of bands like Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Kiss and Thin Lizzy. I got into heavy music very early on, thanks to a neighborhood teenager who use to blare music constantly. The Bay City Rollers were popular at the same time as the Jackson 5, Sean Cassidy, and the Bee Gees.
Despite my distaste for them, there is no denying the hook of S-A-TUR-DAY NIGHT, S-A-TUR-DAY NIGHT!

No doubt. Try bringing up some of these bands on the Blabberboard or T-shirtSlayer and see what happens. LOL!

The Bay City Rollers were the foirst EMO band .......the girls would scream hysterical...then go home and touch themselves.......No it's not as extreme as cutting yourself, but......in some cases blood was involved.

I wasn't around this board when this thread was started but I want to comment now. I like this band alot. I have some of their albums and have listened to them since the 70s. I watched their TV show. I read that more Bay City Rollers memorabilia was sold in the 70s than Elvis and Beatles memorabilia combined. i actually know alot about this band. The drummer was arrested a few years ago on Child p..n charges and was sentenced. One of the guitar players had an operation and is now a woman. They had several songs that have been covered through the years by hair metal bands. One of the better covers was by D'Priest.

I know the band and the SATURDAY was the most over played song on radio at the time. Not my thing at all.
