"Ever notice how none of the Elvis impersonators actually look like Elvis but they all look like each other?"
Can't remember where I heard that quote but it kind of fits in regard to Orchid. Not saying anything against them, just making an observation.
They remind me more of Witchfinder General (who were riding the Sabbath coattails in the early 80s) than Sabbath really. Yes, you can detect all the little ingredients of the 70s Sabbath sound mixed in to Orchid's brew, but it still doesn't taste like the original concoction.
They are quite good at what they do, using the general template and creating their own songs within it. I'm listening to "The Mouths of Madness" on Spotify and it's a fun listen though for whatever reason they still haven't really "hit me" yet.
Think I'll play Vol. 4 after this one is finishes....

I have listened to The Mouths of Madness 10 times now and I think it's Orchid's best album. Not that it's a great departure from their earlier work, but they have added some different elements to their sound.

I quite like it, but nothing more than that. I think that there are more interesting bands doing similar things at the moment.
And with the new Sabbath album coming, I'm not sure that I want this.

I like the band well enough. I wish Count Raven would record a new album. That's a Sabbath-esque band that really appeals to me.

It took me a few listens to get into this one. "Wizard of War" is a monster track, but I felt the rest lacked something the first album had. First time I spun it, I was like "nah". Then I listend a few times more and I am digging it now. Not as much as "Capricorn", but still good.

Just picked this up and spun it while driving. Great stuff. Totally badass to listen too while cruising with the windows down.

I gave this album another listen this evening and I guess I was in a more receptive mood this time because I really dug it. Quality stuff.

I really took a shine to that album after a few spins myself. I wasn't all that impressed on my first listen, but I stuck with it. It's gotten better with every spin and will end up in my Top 10 of 2013. The songs really stick in my mind.

This has been on my list for a while, but I've been putting off for no good reason. I stream it quite often, it's rather incredible.

I held off a bit too, but it was more financial. I picked up Mouths of Madness for under $10, but their older stuff is more pricey than I usually like to spend on a "new" band. I'll get them all eventually.

On November 15, ORCHID will release "The Zodiac Sessions", which consists of "Through The Devil's Doorway" and "Capricorn". For "The Zodiac Sessions", both releases have been completely remastered and put on one CD in a lavish digipak featuring an all new cover art, created by the band's gifted singer, Theo Mindell.
Here they are doing their best Sabbath impression

Love this band! They do the Sabbath sound very well IMHO. I have Capricorn and The Mouths Of Madness and both of them are excellent retro/doom metal.

I dig this track, some good stuff. The production isn't all that great though and it takes away from the song overall.

Dammit! Another ep!! I want an albums worth of material. *sigh*

The vinyl release has been pushed back to 7/24/15 now. Boo! I preordered the CD because of this, but I'll pick up the vinyl at some point too since I have all their other releases on both CD and vinyl.

The new ep is great. My only complaint it that's it's just a short ep of only 4 songs that I probably paid too much for. I'd rather get a full length album from these guys. Oh well. I guess this will have to do for now.

Blank CDs come in handy for combining multiple EPs together into one longer album. State of the art 1997 technology in action.
